All this fighting and jawing and crap that goes on, and is allowed by some teams coaches today as an intimidation factor will be the demise of anything enjoyable about HS football in the future. You've already seen that junk at the youth league levels for years now, the parents are just as bad.  The kids are never corrected, in fact they are probable encouraged to make it all about themselves. No normal football fan like me wants to go and watch selfish athletes with low character play a game.  It's certainly hard to play if your having to decide whether to defend yourself or not.  Lufkin doesn't need to learn to be that way, they need to be above it all.  For all the great athletes Lancaster gets year after year, they have little to show for it, just for the reasons talked about above. No discipline.

That's the reason they're not a serious contender. They're just to undisciplined. If Lufkin can keep it close the chirping will heat up and maybe they will shoot themselves with a penalty. Lancaster looked really good on film. This is going to be a really tough game.

So far I see Lancaster, Forney, Longview going to 6A.  Tyler Legacy , North Forney and Mesquite are already 6A.

West Mesquite 2083 and North Mesquite 2099 remain at 5A DI enrollment numbers as does Tyler 2101.

As for future district opponents for Lufkin, College Station sits on a bubble at 2209, A&M Consolidated 2167 remains in 5A DI territory.

What we are not seeing all the enrollments for the New Caney and Humble ISD schools like New Caney, Porter, Kingwood, Kingwood Park.  The new New Caney West Fork school turned in 1658, how much does that affect New Caney which went 6A the last realignment, and Porter in 5A DI.

Need many more results to see anything clearly for Lufkin's future.  Just know that three of the current 7-5A DI school are for sure headed to 6A.  McKinney north will not be with Lufkin again no matter what happens.   So that only leaves Lufkin, Tyler, WM and NM left from 7-5A DI.  Need more information????

Aledo moving up to 6A, and DeSoto and Highland Park moving down to 5A DI  Yikes!   You know 5A DII is a perfect fit for Lufkin, it's pretty much a perfect fit for Lufkin in all our other sports according to UIL??  So, why make football the outlier for Lufkin?  Don't think we would win even in 5A DII in our situation, so guess it doesn't really matter.

------ DeSoto is coming to 5A lol

There were a couple of changes to the 5A DI DCTF Top  10 teams this week.

Aledo remained #1, followed by Longview at #2. The main change was Forney moving to #8, and College Station moving to #9 and Richland #10.   #3 Mansfield Timberview and #4 Port Arthur Memorial lost and dropped out of the Top 10.

There are now no teams ranked in the Top 10 from District 8-5A DI, while there are two, Longview and Forney from 7-5A DI.

Lancaster is 4-5 overall and 3-3 in district. No big deal, they lost to some powerhouse teams in non district (SOC and Denton Guyer).

Chances in a possible playoff? Excuse me, let me clear my throat on this one.  My trust levels tell me no, not that we don't have the talent to win in the playoffs. We do, the kids would need to take it upon themselves.  However, nothing done by this staff in the last 6 years proves they can, and many here might say the same thing. You can't just turn winning on and off at your digression. Your either a winner or your not.

They do seem to be playing there best football down the stretch but 2 of those 3 wins have been against NM and WM.

Forney 40 McKinney North 7 Final

Lancaster 42 North Mesquite  7 Final

So Lancaster has turned it up the past two weeks on bad opponents outscoring them 97-7.

Just seeing the Forney and McKinney North score let's me know we have a talented roster and can pretty much play with anyone in 5A on the right day. Forney is a legitimate top 5 team and we gave them all they wanted for much of the game. If we can get a motivated Lufkin to show up Friday I think we will make it a game. We certainly have the talent to play with them and probably a coaching advantage believe it or not. There will be some point Friday Lufkin will have to make a play to pull it off. Can they do it will be the question.

One more thing. Barbers Hill beat the snot out of PA Memorial tonight 52-23, which really shakes up the seeding a little as far as #1 or #2.  LaPorte is in there at #3 seed, with New Caney Porter #4,  most likely playing Longview in the 1st round.

Both Barbers Hill and PAM will be tough playoff teams to face for anyone in 7-5ADI.

Yeah I would rather play PAM then BH and I'm sure both would wanna play us then Lancaster lol.

It's no secret that it's much more fun to win, you take it even when the opponent is not great. This Pack group has taken some hard losses this year,  even played close for a while in some but never could finish in those key games.   So, I'm not going to knock a 47-18 win, I'll take those any day.  Thankful that Kendren not only broke Lane's All Time career rushing totals, but shattered it, with one game to go.  It was a great night for Kedren Young with two long TD runs.

Lufkin needed this win to stop the bleeding, if only for a temporary moment.  The secondary scares the crap out of me, the front seven had their moments tonight, played well at times,  had several TFL and made the WM QB throw the ball away about 6 or 7 times. Hooper was all over the place. Then there were those times we couldn't get subs on or off the field, gave up rushing yardage right through our D-line, then got caught with our pants down on a fake punt. Mixed bag IMO, it was more than enough to beat a WM team, which is not Lancaster.

The offense, well, Green just loves that inside run and they had 50/50 success passing the ball, got some big yardage with the good 50%, still a mixed bag there that make one exuberate on one play, then makes you bite your tongue the next play. B. Murphy had his best night running the ball.

You always see the possibility of greatness with both the offense and defense, but it never quite stays consistent. Like smoke, it's there for a while then dissipates.

Next week is no joke on the road, I can't even imagine the match up, with the way this team and coaching staff have performed against good talented teams. I have nothing, just sitting here SMH, there are no words right now.   I'm confident Lufkin will be the underdog going in, so that I know.  Good win Panthers, it just feels good to win, there something so refreshing about it all.

I think it will be interesting Friday. Lancaster doesn't play with a fast tempo. That should help us out.

No totals records out there but my bet is Young has more carries than Lane, even though Lane played in 11 playoff games.  The Panther threw the ball more, and more efficiently when Lane played.  Young is in the top 8 All-Time in carries in a game currently.

All-Time Panther Rushing Attempts in a Game:
    41 - Denvis Manns, 1994, vs. Marshall

    34 - Kedren Young, 2023, vs Forney

32 - Kedren Young , 2021, vs New Caney Porter

    32 - Kedren Young, 2023, vs A&M Consolidated

35 - Kedren Young, 2022, vs West Mesquite

    28 - Kedren Young, 2023, vs Tyler

27 - Kedren Young, 2023, vs McKinney North

26 - Kedren Young, 2022, vs McKinney North

Lane is no where to be found in top 8. Trying to find how many carries Lane had in 2004 against The Woodlands. I know Lane had some 20 plus carry games.

Lane didn't get to play a lot in the 2nd half our SR season.

The Lufkin Panthers are coming off a month they’d rather forget. Since opening the season with three straight wins, Lufkin has dropped four of five district games.

In the process, Lufkin knows it needs wins and some help in order to snap a two-year streak of missing the postseason. Even though it seems like a tough road ahead, there is still plenty to play for when the team hosts the West Mesquite Wranglers tonight.

The Panthers will try to send their seniors out in style for their final home game while attempting to keep playoff hopes entering the final week.

There is also a little bit of history to take care of as Notre Dame commit Kedren Young can etch his name atop the school record rushing list tonight.

“We haven’t always played well, but the kids have been playing hard,” Lufkin head coach Todd Quick said. “There’s still plenty to play for. They’re ready to get that bad taste out of their mouths.”

There are a variety of playoff options, but the Panthers know they need a win over West Mesquite, a Lancaster win over North Mesquite and a Longview victory over Tyler in order to stay alive for the postseason.

None of those scenarios are unlikely with North Mesquite sitting at the bottom of the district and Longview aiming to lock up the district title with a win.

That would give Lufkin a chance to get itself into a tiebreaker with a win and some help next week.

The Panthers will also honor their seniors before the game in a ceremony prior to kickoff.

“It’s a big night for the seniors,” Quick said. “It’s the last time they get to play at Abe. Some of them shrugged their shoulders when we talked about it, but I know it’s going to be a special thing once they get on the field. These seniors have done things the right way. They deserve to walk off the field here for the last time with a smile.”

On an individual basis, Lufkin fans have a chance to witness history with Young going after the school’s all-time rushing record.

Jorvorskie Lane has the all-time record with 3,767 rushing yards while playing 41 games from 2004-06. Young stands 24 yards behind him with 3,743 yards through 27 games.

While those are footnotes to tonight’s game, Quick said the focus in the locker room has been much simpler.

“Just win,” Quick said. “You want to send the seniors out the right way. It all starts with winning.”

In order to get that win, the Panthers will need to pounce on a West Mesquite squad that has struggled throughout district action.

The Wranglers and Panthers enter tonight’s game in a tie for sixth place. While Lufkin still has playoff hopes, West Mesquite has been officially eliminated.

Outside of a 27-16 win over North Mesquite, West Mesquite has been outscored 230-33 in its four other games.

West Mesquite has struggled to find consistency on offense where it averages 15 points per contest.

Demetrius Ballard has gotten the majority of snaps at quarterback, where he averaged 116 yards per game ahead of last week’s contest.

His top target is Richard Clark, who has 400 receiving yards to go along with four touchdowns.

Damarian Robinson is the team’s leading rusher, although he has been held below four yards per carry on the season.

“They want to run the ball, but they don’t mind throwing it either,” Quick said. “They threw it 55 times against Tyler. They’ve got an athletic quarterback that can run and scramble and a big, tall wide receiver.”

The Wranglers haven’t found many answers on the defensive side either as they give up 37 points per contest. They have allowed 49 points per game in district.

“They run a 3-4 look with pretty much what we see every district game,” Quick said. “We need to be sure we’re not getting behind the chains like we were last week. We need to be more efficient and cut out the missed assignments we’ve had.”

Following tonight’s game, Lufkin will travel to Lancaster for what could be a crucial regular-season finale if it gets the help it needs. Kickoff for tonight’s game is set for 7:30 with Senior Night festivities set before the contest.

I wonder how many carries Lane has compared to Young

100% correct PA, but LISD is dealing with tons of problems right now. With the the budget overblown, security problem's ,teacher shortages etc, Quick is probably the least of their worries. I also heard that they will no longer charter  buses for games less than a hundred miles.

I can confirm no charters on buses less then a 100. What kind of mess did Torres get them into lol.
