This is pretty much how I see it. I don't know his family situation, other than he was running with the wrong crowd here. He's doing well in and outside of the classroom. No need to comeback here and be around the same people your parents wanted you away from. Plus Lufkin has nothing to offer. It would be different if the football program was on the upswing. Why comeback in the midst of a 3 year playoff drought? And there's no guarantee Green will utilize him correctly. We assume Green will give the kid the ball. But that makes too much sense, so why risk it?
Because they were 2-8 and will likely win about 2 games next season. Dad says the OC is worse then Green lol.

I don’t think you can say it was 2 better WRs than Murphy this last season. Potentially could be but off production he was the #1 with Preston at #2 we also have to talk about the Offensive line because it wasn’t the best and we still gotta replace 3 guys but I hope they’re better but you never know with how things been turning out
Preston clearly better and I would personally take Kevo over Murphy. That's just me. Hooper and Waters will round out the rotation. I like it. Gio is supposed to be back next year at LT.

It will be a challenge to replace the likes of P5 RB in Young, Menefee, Brayden Murphy and a few offensive lineman were also seniors
The defense is going to be much better they return 9 kids and did a pretty decent job against Lancaster without Menefee. We will definitely be fine at WR the 2 best ones are coming back. Kedren they won't be able to replace but I think it's a good thing we will get back to throwing the ball around. They will clearly be a better team next season without question.

Going to get ready to shut down this 2023 football topic right after January 1st. Will prepare a new 2024 football topic to hopefully speak about something positive for 2024. To be honest, I'm at my lowest level of interest in Lufkin football since about 1995.
The district hasn't flinched much over not making the playoffs in 3 years, or not being a real contender at all. You have to go back to 2017, Todd Quick's best playoff run as a coach, a 4th round appearance. Actually the only significant run in his 12 years as coach. Whatever the district leaders are being told by Quick, they evidently believe him. There seems to be no accountability. Guess being the AD you don't have to be?
Sorry, I'm just tired, and if not for Purple Nation talking about this 2024 groups chances, I'd probably step down and let someone else run with this forum, and take the FB and X sites, if they so desired. My faith in this current staff to build a winning playoff program in Lufkin has dried up. I'm finally fed up with the excuses these last three seasons. Mainly, Quick, Green and Cook have had their 12 year opportunity, they have failed.
Not sure what there will be to talk about. Waiting to see our new district in February? Get the new 2024 schedule? I don't think anything different helps us, there is no proof a less competitive district helps our program's chances. They just wasted a P5 RB, Kedren Young, the last 3 years. I don't give a rip that he is the all time Lufkin rushing leader, he didn't play a single playoff game!!! Same way I feel about Jordan Moore's all time Panther QB passing yardage!!!, he was 0-2 in the playoffs. Nothing to really show for their efforts here, and people will soon forget them, because winning big in the playoffs is what seals a HS players legacy. Not losing.
If the Pack are a contender next year, with all that talent, I will be the most surprised of anyone. Not because we don't have the kids to contend for it, it's that Quick and Green haven't proved they can. Those guys, and Cook have one 4th round playoff appearence in 12 years. ???? I'm through waiting as a fan, as are about 2000 other season ticket and regular general admission ticket folks who have not shown up for 2022-2023 home games.
It's time for a complete change IMO, and bringing in a coach who has the expertise to build our football program back to a playoff winner from top to bottom.
I think they will definitely be better next season. Just to much returning talent. We will have a legitimate duel threat QB. I think not having Kedren will force Green to open up the passing game and I like that.

There's a lot of great teams in the country. Including those you named just above. I think it's hard to make a comparison for the entire country. I would take the field vs Desoto if I had too. And thats not taking anything away from how good they are. Definitely the best in TX this year and would hold their own against a lot of programs.
DeSoto is for sure the best team in Texas but I'm taking Mater Dei. MD came to Texas and beat Duncanville 45-7. They stack teams like you can't do in Texas.

They got subs in and still trashing Summer Creek. I thought I seen a lot of speed in that Timpson game ,but man Desoto should be against law . There can't be many teams nation wide that could compete with how they are playing
Mater Dei, IMG and Miami Central are probably the only teams in America that could beat DeSoto.

Just looking at PNG and SOC, there is no way Lufkin coaching can compare to either school in 5A DII.
What a game, what tenacity by PNG to hang in there, make the plays down the stretch, the FG kicker was phenomenal, and he made it possible to hang in there long enough to win a title. SOC is stacked, big and fast. Wow.
Two great squads against each other in the biggest game of the year for both. What a game, just what you want in a title game.
I thought SOC coaching was horrible. Particularly on offense. They should have fed the RB. The QB was killing them. Thought SOC got hosed on the Pi call but a still image from the back showed it was indeed a good call

My hope is someone like a Anna coach are hired here when Quick finally steps aside. Do not promote from within with the same culture that has got this program no where the past 6 years. If that happens, you guys would never hear from me again, and my presence at a Lufkin football game would be ended, as would several hundred other folks. I'm tired of losing and watching under achieving football here. Not going to waste my money watching it. In respect to Purple Nation, I'm giving them one more season to do something substantial.
I definitely think they next hire needs to come from someone on the outside that's a proven winner.
-
For what it's worth I would take the Anna coach if I had to pick from the coaches I've seen so far from the state championships. What he did with Anna is more impressive then what Aledo coach is doing. Anyone with half a brain could of won state with Aledo talent.
-
It's just a totally different game then when Lufkin was running things. The metroplex areas are booming and it's easier now then ever to stack teams. The UIL just sits back and allows it. It doesn't matter who your coach is or calling the plays if you're completely out gunned. Nick Saban said it best. Sometimes it's not the play call it's the guy you have running the plays.
-
How about Chapel Hill getting their teeth kicked in. All those weapons and 50ppg and they got blanked.
I got the Dallas sweep tonight. Although I'll be pulling for PNG, and Summer Creek. I hope Duncanville beats the piss outta NS

Bussey will probably play defensive back. A&M new defensive back coach was there watching him last night. Sounds like he may be wavering some on the ags. LSU defensive back coach was also there watching him last night.
I think he translates much better on that side of the ball. He probably could be a pretty good CB.

Your correct. Can't name the last 2A or 3A big name player who made it big at the P5 level right away. Last I remember was Colt McCoy, Patrick Mahomes or Rodney Thomas.
By the way Thomas passed away at 41 in 2014 of a heart attack.
Johnathan Brooks at Texas this year is a good example but he played RB in HS. Same with Colt McCoy he played QB. Bussey is going to be asked to play WR. It's going to be a major learning curve. Small school players have proven they can make it. I just don't like it when they get to college and they have to play a foreign position.

Young never played a single playoff game in Lufkin. There will not be another RB like him here for another decade. What a shame.
Maybe even longer then that. I can only think of 2 other RBs that caliber that played at Lufkin in my lifetime. Denvis Manns and Jorvorskie Lane. Bonafide NFL caliber backs.

Timpson is an amazing team. Saw them at ABE earlier in the playoffs.
Talented team, well coached too. They know how and where to play their talent. They have done the same the last 4 years. I'm jealous cause we don't have the coaching here to do that.
Boy, if we had a Bussey type at QB. Well, the OC the same, NVM!
I'm always on the fence about small town players like that. Remember Rashad Paul from Bremond was a similar 2A player that went to A&M that went 47-0 in HS with 3 state championships and eventually transferred to Arkansas St. They're always the best player on the field in HS and when they get to college you ask them to play a position that they've never played. He's going to have to learn to run routes properly. He's obviously a good football player but we really don't know how good of a WR he will be in college. I know this is going to be an unpopular take.

Think they could beat Lufkin!
They wouldn't beat Diboll. Could you imagine Timpson trying to tackle Kedren Young lol. Why would you even bring that up 😂

Does anyone know the back story on Summer Creek? Don't I have ever hear much about them. The others are all blue bloods.
They're in the same district as NS. They have had some good teams these last couple of years. Not sure if they will have much for DeSoto.

Most mocks have us going south with teams like Beamon Westbrook, Beaumont United, Port Arthur Memorial, New Caney Porter, Humble Kingwood, Barber Hill, Crosby and LaPorte

Malik Jackson had a pretty good season at Jacksonville St.

You sure? I think he graduated in 2020 which makes the 17 football season his sophomore year. I thought I remember him playing that season
I can't really recall. He may have.

Man, PN I respect you like no other. Wish I could see things now through your perspective. 10-2 and 9-2 with two great players, doesn't resonate with me anymore. Any more than having a P5 Norte Dame running back for 3 years and zero playoffs. If next year's group falls short, then I'm walking away from this program until the proper changes are made, which in my case might be forever. I've been around long enough to see where we have been, and now where we are today. Just tired of hoping and having expectations that don't pan out.
I definitely think they under achieved the years following 2017. They started one of those years #1. Had a really good team. Lost our QB before Lonestar and the back up. Lonestar also had 2 NFL players on that team. They just didn't lose to some guys. Now Texas High was a bad game. They had that game won several times and found a way to get beat. Texas High did have a few studs too.

Exactly. I mean, did we get the maximum we should have with those guys on the roster? Prolly not but we had one incredible season while they were.
Now that I think about it. Polk wasn't on that team. He would of been a freshmen in 2017. So they would of been on the 2018 and 19 teams together. 10-2 and 9-2.

Draft Buzz has him Late 2nd projection #13 WR overall. It's not a matter of if he gets drafted it's a matter of when he gets drafted. I can't see him falling past the 3rd RD.
