Man, I hated losing Writt (Yates 1st year OC) at Longview.

Every Longview receiving record known to man was shredded while Writt was WR coach. Not to mention numerous deep runs including the state championship. He was also responsible for signaling in our plays.

Crazy thing is, he knows defense too. One of the best safeties to ever come through Longview and played the position in college.

He and Ralph are the perfect combo to call an offense.

Yes they're. I would love to see my former teammate get the job here one day.

I agree with that and the d has been put in bad situations, trust me I’m all for the d, but their schemes ( that is Sodequist) again when your total d line, not just d tackles, are the strength ( 7 and 17 good linebackers) you let them play and not take space for average to good linebackers ( remember there are 4) and a suspect secondary (#6 can lay some hits).

We are settling for average at best coordinators on both sides of the ball.

7 needed to stay at FS. The safety position has killed us this season. I did not like that move. We have other kids that can play OLB. Outside 7 and 17 the LBs haven't given us much. 40 is just taking up space.

Not fully recovered?  73 is better and plays harder.  Some of y’all are infatuated with 6’4 300.  Takes more plays off than he makes.  Should have been running a 4-3 all year with the size.

when you run a 3 man front and use your d-ends to take on double teams to open up for linebackers they have to make plays and consistently don’t.

the d line is the strength and should be used to make plays not just take on blockers.

I wouldn't say he is better and plays harder. I like them both and Zion is still hurt. To be honest with you neither one of them have been much of a factor these last 2 games but I think they do a good job of swallowing up blocks our LBs have to play better. In a perfect world I would like to see them both at DT in an even front but I worry about the depth behind them. Even in a 4 man front we don't have DE's that are pass rushers. So I don't have a problem running a 3-4 as long as we send pressure to try to generate a pass rush.

No he doesn’t what are you watching?

They haven't been a bad defense. Them Stafford defenses were bad but he didn't have much to work with. I'm not going to blame missed tackles on the coaching. I think we definitely could have blitzed more this season and bounces around from an odd and even front. I see way more from that side of the ball then the offense.

Good question and I do think he would be just as good as Tatum at Longview.  So maybe he is a top 3 back in the country?

I think Kedren having to play behind a bad offensive line like this will help his game more then Tatum at the next level initially. I think they're both high caliber backs and not much separates them. Both can catch the ball out the backfield and run between the tackles with home run speed

The whole program needs a make over. We knew Lufkin would have to step it up when we saw who would be in our district. Lufkin always had a speed and athleticism advantage vs most of the teams in our old Houston districts. Doesn't matter what district we are in next year. If we continue doing the same stuff.

So let's say we are placed in a weak district. What's the reward for making the playoffs? Most likely facing a team from a much more competitive district. Which gets us back to being one and done. Get your program fixed and you don't have to worry about such things. Longview doesn't worry about stuff like that. They actually want good teams in their district. It's a chance for them to prove how good they are. There was a time Lufkin was the same.

I agree at the end of the day we should be good enough to compete in this district.

  7. I'm going to try not to think to much about it. This season is almost over and the probability of us making the post season is ventilator status. The oldest kid got me a couple of Texas vs Houston tickets today and he's not playing today so I can cheer for Texas and not feel guilty. I'm still going to wear my cougar shirt because it would probably be frowned apon picking up a players ticket in a Texas shirt lol

We all know that offense won’t get molded around the talent we have. They have made that very clear. Is this the same offense Lane played in?

Yep exact same offense Lane was in but we had an offensive line and a dang good QB. It wasn't the play calls why we went 14-1 we were just immensely more talented and our defense was only giving up 11 ppg in 04 or something close to that.

My big what if is, if the line was good is the offense still bad? Play are probably still basic but just opening up running lanes would change everything. Giving one more second is pass protection is a huge deal.

It definitely would help but the scheme overall is still bad. You don't make the defense defend enough of the field. Play calls coming in way to late. We need to be an up tempo offense with the type of skill players we have. To many times the defense is already set and by the time they show the blitz it's to late. Playing faster and hard counting would show the defenses hand and allow for us to call a play from where the blitz is coming from or force them to check out of it.

I agree Lufkin has been in some games. I also agree they are talented. The problem is they still play bad football. Good district or not you can’t watch these games and tell me it’s good football. The only team I’ve seen play worse football might be Legacy and Nac. I see a team that honestly should be 7-1 but they are what their record says they are.

I agree with that. They have held leads or been tied in the 2nd half of every game this year except Longview. Most of the problems if not all of them are with the offense. Now that's bad football 101.

And that's a good thing. I will have to admit that we got caught a perfect storm this year and last in this district with Longview, Forney, McKinney North and Lancaster having some of their best talent come along as the same time as Lufkin getting some decent talent. There are some outstanding coaching staffs in this district as well, as we have found out. This group will be better somewhere else next year, but I still don't think it helps us as far as better coaching or playoff runs if we keep some of the same guys on staff.

I definitely wanna keep Coach Soderquist. They played decent defense this year and he makes adjustments. I seen enough to like what they could and should be next season on that side but I am 100% on it's time for Green to either go back to 6th grade PE or Jacksonville.

Last night I watched Lufkin has a few issues. Once again we couldn’t block to save our lives. On the final drive our best offensive weapon was left in to pass protect. Qb had no time. The entire offense scheme makes no sense. On defense we have no pass rush. Our line is getting worn down because they are absorbing blocks the whole time. Team speed isn’t there. The Tyler team was fast. We are not. It showed. They are strong. We are not. It showed.

I think we would of been better off going with Johnson at QB late. He would of been good enough to evade the rush and get outside the pocket and put pressure on the Tyler defense to come up off the WRs and tackle him in space and that might of opened up a big play down field. He should 100% get the start next week. Like you said the scheme is trash. No TE's and nothing under center. Tyler doesn't even have to defend the middle of the field 95% of the time. Personally I have nothing against Green. I just think it's time. When you're arguing with your players on the sideline because they know you're screwing them over it's a problem and it's just time to go.

Probably agree with what your saying, except if your going to be a good program (Longview), you have to beat good teams. I think it's a failure on our coaches part not to be able to coach theses kids to win big games and finish at least 4th place the last two years. Especially on the offense side with a kid like Kedren. For them not to do a better job of building a really goof OL around him to highlight his abilities is a failure, even if you must play some guys both ways. The OC ability to be creative limits any really good talent IMO, that is the loadstone of this program right now.

I agree. We should have definitely had a better showing but I'm just being real about the situation next season. Lufkin won't be in a district remotely close to this and I don't think we need to hold that against them.

Lancaster is gonna kick Lufkins a$$. They are starting to roll and a lot will be on the line for them that night. We are done, as we always are with this staff. We’re gonna have to bank on being in a “weaker” district in order to make the playoffs. What a mind set 🙄

Did you even play in HS? Serious question and not the kid you pretended to be.

  15. Literally every other 5A district is weaker then this. We had 3 teams that were in the top 10 this year at some point and another that's around the top 15 and 2 of the 4 teams had been in the top 3 at some point. I don't won't to hear anything about being in a weaker district mind set next season is why they're winning. 3 of the 4 playoff teams in this district will be in 6A next year. Lufkin would have made the Playoffs literally in every other district in 5A this year. Some of you guys are acting like they're losing to bad teams and that's not the case. Longview has boat raced everyone except Forney. Lufkin has been in every game this year except Longview. So yeah they're going to absolutely benefit next season not being in a district like this. I'm going to take those wins just the same. I don't care. I'll enjoy beating up on Baytown Goose Greek idgaf. We earned an easy district after being stuck in this that made absolutely 0 sense from the beginning.

I think it was more him just wanting to secure the win. And playing the numbers game. What are the chances of Lufkin beating Lancaster vs them potentially turning the ball over and Lufkin possibly scoring. When it's all said and done, neither will be moving on. Unless Forney decides to rest most of their players the last game and give Tyler a shot.

Tyler coaches aren't perfect. I did see some head scratching moments. McFalls should be more involved in that offense. He's too dynamic of a player not to have more touches. But of course it's hard to out bad Lufkin when it comes to coaching. Lol

The only team we have managed to beat. Is the bottom dweller. And we struggled with them well into the second half of that game. It's just a bad look for this program.

I think the statistical probability would of favored them trying to score and us beating Lancaster. Because they're not beating Longview or Forney. It was just dumb no way around it. That TD would of at least given them a chance. Now they have to beat Longview or Forney when they didn't have to.

They don’t deserve it. Horrible coaching and passing game…mostly because we don’t have a Qb and OC. We definitely have good receivers…

But I'm just saying that was a dumb decision to kneel the ball. If Quick did something like that you guys would come unglued lol. That just wasn't smart. I guess they could beat Longview or Forney but good luck with that. That's just not being aware of the situation.

  18. 13 minutes ago, PackAttack said:

I can hear the spin from Quick now.

Honestly the Tyler coach is an idiot for not trying to score a TD. He essentially eliminated them from the playoffs because they're not going to beat Longview or Forney. Tyler is at a -4 right now. A Lufkin 6 point win would put us at +3 and Lancaster +1. Matter in fact we could probably beat them by 5 and get in because the tie breaker then would go to head to head. So everyone praising the Tyler coach when he obviously failed at mathematics. I couldn't believe they kneeled the ball. That's just not being aware of the situation.

What the heck is he going to do diffetent than what he did this year. Keeping Inadequate coaching on staff. If he can't win with these last two groups, he won't win with next year's group. You can bank money on it.

I don't think we will be in a nearly as challenging district. Maybe it will be smoke and mirror wins until we play a team with equal talent but we will see that's for sure lol
