I'm always on the fence about small town players like that. Remember Rashad Paul from Bremond was a similar 2A player that went to A&M that went 47-0 in HS with 3 state championships and eventually transferred to Arkansas St. They're always the best player on the field in HS and when they get to college you ask them to play a position that they've never played. He's going to have to learn to run routes properly. He's obviously a good football player but we really don't know how good of a WR he will be in college. I know this is going to be an unpopular take.

  2. @PurpleNation I apologize man. The longer these playoffs have gone on and seeing what our district is doing and what Lufkin was able to do against these teams (except Longview) it really is a testament to the talent level we had and the talent level of this district. I know our coaching flaws hurt us, but when you say not being in this district will help us next season I’m backing that claim 100%.

Yea, never mind is right, for like the 6th year in a row. There is really nothing to say. For myself?, there are some decisions to be made by me on whether I contine to follow Panther football.  It's just a terrible disappointment to our Community that this continues year after year, and nothing is ever done.  How many fans are the district leaders finally willing to lose before they see a need for change? Are we expected to accept and endure this continued failure to make the playoffs? From the outside looking in, it really does seem the district leaders are fine with the current situation. Unless, they can't do anything, and are contractually bound. Much as they were with Superintendent Torres. I know the team was closer in key games this year, but it didn't use to be that way around here, it is now. Close was never good enough. It's just a real mess, and the players, and especially the Panther fans are paying for it. Literally!

Man, you know the story. A lot of them are just all friends. One big circle jerk of F’n morons running the show. I mean, let’s forget about football for a second and just think about Lufkin ISD a whole. It’s a joke. So, why do we think something is going to change with the football program when we can’t even manage the finances or discipline correctly? We nominated an idiot to be superintendent because she had been with the district for 30+ years. She wasn’t qualified and now we have BS to fix. Quick also wasn’t qualified to head coach a 5A D1 program at the time of outlaws death and Idgaf what any of y’all say. It was a bad call from the jump. Stupid. But that’s how things operate around here. When that MF’er lost back to back games to Nacogdoches he should’ve been ran out of town. That 2017 Lufkin football team was so talented it’s unreal. They were 2005 good. They Had to be to drag this bunch of dumb shyts that far. And in the end what happened? Oh, we got out coached. Lufkin was better than Longview. We left that game doing the same thing we always do after meaningful games. Questioning play calls and coaching decisions. There are truly two problems. One, we have a staff that are too close with the people who hold their fate. And two, they legit have those guys convinced we just don’t have the “talent” to do more. They think we’re playing these good teams close because of good coaching rather than losing to them because of under-utilized talent. That’s a fact. Quick will retire once he sees a wave of talentless kids coming through. That’s just too much work for him to want to go through at 62+ years old. Watch.

These other programs are definitely doing something a little different than Lufkin. I don't buy the Caleb Beams analogy for losing is we have been playing 6A enrollment teams the past two year. ???? You can dream up any kind of thought you want about it, Beams wasn't around when John Outlaw  was kicking and taking names against the better HS programs in Texas.  Lufkin is probably the only program in Texas who are 2-0 in their history against Katy and Allen, even 2-1 against Spring Westfield. You can safely say this Panther program is no where close to that level today.  Longview had become our bellwether measuring stick in non district (they just kick our now, last three games 41-5, 56-7 and 42-0 says a bunch), last two years it's been AMC, and it has never seems to make the program better.  It's evident that Outlaw was the guru and the brains behind the Panther football success back in the day. He my have fell off winning playoff games his last five years, but he was still finishing 9-1 and 8-2 in the regular season. He had such a great 9 year run (1998-2006) of winning games and playoff runs. He had the Panthers in 33 playoff games in those 9 years, with a 25-8 playoff record, three State Semi- Finalist (2002,2004,2005) and a State Championship (2001).  Can you imagine that today?, 33 playoff games in 9 years, Quick has only got the Panthers in 15 playoff games (6-9) in his 12 years. These Panther players today don't have a clue, they can't even imagine the greatness of those past Panther football teams.  We see now that Outlaw was the catalyst and builder of it all, Quick and Green were part of that time too, but they can't even get a sniff of what that use to be like anymore.

Just wait until next year. We’re bound to play Longview within 35. Seven points closer each year and we should be there in 6 years or so!

Josh Havard and the Lufkin Daily tackled the Next Year button for Panther football a couple days ago. Thought I would share. Talking about Regrouping for a playoff run next year. Describing what the football Panthers have returning for 2024.  Of course there are no Coach Quick quips in the article.  By the way the QBs name for next year is JAVION JOHNSON, not Jackson.  I just feel bad that Josh can't really dig into the questions of why?.  We have all heard what is said before a season and after a season, it's like the same script is brought out of the desk drawer and re read the last 5 or 6 years.  "We are not where we want to be", "This is not what is expected around Lufkin Tx." "We have already started to prepare for off season". " We have got to get back to winning, the playoffs are always our goal".   I don't know, you figure it out, that stuff is falling on my deaf ears. At some point you think you would finally see something to back up those words.

The Lufkin Panthers’ football team entered the 2023 season knowing they would need to be much better in order to snap a two-year playoff drought. In the end, the Panthers seemed to field a better team.

    Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough.

After a blowout loss to Longview on the opening night of district, the Panthers were in every one of the final six contests. Unfortunately, they didn’t quite have enough to finish off enough of those victories.

It started on a night Lufkin lost both quarterbacks before fading late in a 42-21 loss to Forney.

Over the final month of the season, Lufkin was on the wrong end of three one-score games.

Fittingly, it ended with a heartbreaking 28-27 loss to Lancaster. Lufkin entered the night knowing it needed a five-point win and a Tyler loss in order to make the postseason.

It got the help it needed when Tyler fell to Forney. And when the Panthers led 27-21 with five minutes remaining, it appeared Lufkin would get the miracle it needed in order to make the postseason.

Unfortunately for the Pack, Lancaster had other ideas as it punched its own ticket to the playoffs with a victory.

The loss left Lufkin’s playoff drought at three years headed into another offseason that will be defined by realignment.

Lufkin played in what was one of the best 5A districts in the state this season. With half of those teams possibly moving up to 6A, the Panthers will likely be finding another home, possibly in the Houston area.

Wherever Lufkin ends up, it will try to head back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Even with the loss of all-time leading rusher Kedren Young, the Panthers should have enough talent to make a playoff trip a legitimate possibility.

Here is a look at the team as it enters the offseason.

Offense — There simply won’t be any replacing Kedren Young, who was a massive part of the Panthers over the past three years.

He has committed to Notre Dame and is likely to make that commitment during December’s National Signing Day.

Finding production in the backfield will be one of the Panthers’ biggest keys.

Demarkus Chinn is a speedster who saw time in the backfield and could see a bigger role next season.

The Panthers will also need to replace T.J. Hammond, a three-year starter at quarterback. He finished the year throwing for 1,640 yards and 14 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

Javion Jackson, who started a game and saw action in eight contests this season, will be the likely replacement. He will be a bigger threat in the running game, allowing the Panthers to build around him.

There will be a mixture of experience and newcomers at receiver. Lufkin will graduate its top receiver Brayden Murphy, who caught 43 passes for 600 yards and four touchdowns.

However, they’ll have plenty of talent hanging around.

Krisean Preston will be a senior after a season in which he made 28 catches for 515 yards and seven scores. Ke’Vondrick Taylor caught 23 passes for 417 yards and four touchdowns.

Both will be big-time threats in the receiving game.

Lufkin loses Jordan Nichols, Rico Rose and Daniel Torres, three players who started the final, on the offensive line. It returns Tavorian Foreman and Matthew Chavez, two players who saw significant roles.

Defense — The Panthers’ defense was a strength by the end of the season after having some struggles early.

They will be returning their best player in Zion Williams, a defensive lineman who is one of the top recruits in the nation. Elijah Alexander and Jordan McClendon also return as key players off this year’s team.

That should help offset the graduation of Maurice Curl and Cooper Conrad, two seniors who played key roles.

It will also be a massive jolt for Lufkin to return its leading tackler in linebacker Kaden Hooper.

He finished the year with 106 takedowns and was a force late in the season.

Juan Lara and Keithan Davis are two other linebackers who are expected to see key roles on next year’s team.

That will help with the loss of Isaiah Menefee, who was a force throughout the season before leaving with an injury after the opening kickoff against Lancaster.

The Panthers’ secondary should be strong despite the loss of Amarion Campbell, who turned into a playmaker at safety.

Lufkin returns starters Kenneth Timmons, Evan Young and Amontia Hatton, who all will play bigger roles as seniors.

Special teams — The Panthers’ special teams were somewhat of a disaster early in the season but turned into one of the biggest assets by the finale.

That is due in large part to two-year starter Nolan Hansard, who showed off his leg in the final part of the season with a 41-yard field goal and a 67-yard punt.

He returns to solidify the Panthers’ special teams in every phase.

We got better but finished a game worse? Everybody else got better too. Actually, they apparently got better than us lol. Continuously left behind. Smh.
