  1. Not fault of his own. Lufkin has to score to start the 3rd and make McNorth play from behind. Stops will be at a premium.
  2. He is a walking highlight reel. He's been under used. He's easily our best weapon outside Kedren
  3. Looks like the Gold team won based on Mason Mark's highlights. He's the next big time recruit Lufkin will have. His little brother is going to be a hoss too.
  4. What year did you play? We went 14-1 in 2004 and we went against our JV. I don't think it matters. That's how they have done it. We might go against the 1's in pass hull some days but of course our JV had Dez Bryant on it and they went 14-1 after we left in 2005.
  5. That's how it's been since I can remember. You never see the 1's on 1's unless it's pass hull. You really can't have your starting defense taking time out to run whatever McKinney North is going to do. They have to work on their game plan for the week. That's not the issue. The issue is the play calling and overall scheme.
  6. I'm not going to entertain certain clowns but the improvement is obvious. They weren't even close to being in the game against Forney last year. They had a chance to win it this year. They scored more points against Forney then any team they have faced this season including Longview. We have to give them credit for that game. That game was much more competitive then the final score and they know that. Longview also racked up 350 rushing yards last year. They didn't even get close to that this year. But these same people will applaud Tyler who's offense is struggling just as bad if not worse then Lufkin's and that's with new coaching. Once again the problem is we have unreasonable expectations.
  7. Yeah it's definitely a problem. I think they play calling could be better but I'll be honest. Some of those plays we're just missing open guys and some of these plays would go for 6. Against Longview on the first drive Preston was behind the defense and it was over thrown. The INT that was nearly returned for a TD was a missed WR that would have walked into the end zone. Then we have had 4 or 5 of Murphy's TDs called back. We can't completely blame Green on everything. They just have to make some plays at some point in the passing game. If they can buy TJ time he can deliver some accurate passes. Most of his problems are from a lack of protection and inconsistent run game. Where I do blame Green is. We need to use some TE's. Loosing Gavin definitely has hurt the offense they haven't been the same without him. We could certainly max protect a little bit more and give the QB more time. Also they use some pre snap motion but not nearly enough. Maybe try to go tempo at times so defenses can't get set and have to play base defense. It's beating a dead horse at this point. I'm going to show up Friday and hope for the best.
  8. I think the defense is a good solid unit. They're giving up around 23.6 ppg. I think next season that number will be at least a TD lower and when you hold teams to 17 or less you're going to be in any game you play but the 23.8 is a solid number especially considering it's 8 underclassmen starting and several more that are seeing time. The number is skewed a little bit when you take into consideration the back ups and the offense/special teams putting them in some really tough spots against Longview and Forney. On the other hand the offense is averaging 23.8 ppg. That's just not good enough. You would like to see that number at 35+. At 23.8 Every game we play is going to be a close game. I'm not sure what to expect Friday against McNorth. I was pretty positive until the North Mesquite game. It's just concerning.
  9. It's definitely a concern. I know TJ had been sick but honestly it's the play calling. Teams are just stacking the box and keying in on Kedren. If they post numbers like this Friday they're going to get blown out. They will need to get to 35 to give us a chance.
  10. I think they wanted to make sure Zion was healthy and maybe catch McNorth by surprise. I heard TJ was sick Thursday. Jayvion has a long way to go but I'm glad he's getting some reps for next season.
  11. Lancaster is a tough read. I think we match up well with them but the game being in Dallas worries me. The officiating is terrible for teams playing in the metroplex. They tried their best to hose Longview. That's why this game against McNorth is critical. Lufkin can't afford to show up uninspired. Having Zion back made a huge difference in the 2nd half. They just didn't have an answer for him. I was told he had to beg Quick to play. If McNorth run defense isn't any better we're for sure going to beat them but if they can slow Kedren down like NM and Forney did then we might be in trouble. The intermediate passing game is almost non existent. That use to be a staple for a Lufkin offense. The deep balls are open just not hitting nearly enough of them to back the defense up. The season is pretty much on the line Friday night. It's essentially a playoff game. It's officially a must win for me now.
  12. Even if we beat McNorth Friday we're going to hear the same people crying. The goalpost will move to well they won't win a playoff game. It's just unrealistic expectations for a young team with how many first year starters we have.I said 7-8 wins at the beginning of the season is about where they should be at this year based off talent and experience. Some of you guys didn't want to hear it but that is the reality. Now if they finish 5-5 I'll be concerned for next season because they should absolutely beat Tyler and West Mesquite.
  13. Lufkin didn't have high expectations this year. They were picked 5th in district. Just like last season coming off 4 wins nobody thought they would get 6 wins and they almost made the playoffs. I have been on record saying next season would be the year to watch. When they return 8 starters from a defense that's already pretty good. They're going to be an elite unit next season. That's you guys with these unrealistic expectations. I think they should make the playoffs this year but I wasn't expecting them to make any kind of run. Lufkin was just in a tight game vs Forney a bonafide Top 5-10 team in the state with mostly underclassmen. It's just funny you guys are giving Tyler credit for almost beating McNorth and struggling to a 21-6 win over Mesquite. They still have Forney and Longview on the schedule. You guys can fan boy out over Tyler but they're not anything special this year with their new coach. I agree with you on Green but praising Tyler for the same stuff you criticize Lufkin for I don't agree with that. Stay consistent.
  14. Yeah they're praising Tyler but in reality they switched coaches and still doing about what Lufkin is doing. Nobody's talking about it but our offense had more success vs Forney then Longview. The fact that Lufkin was in a 21-21 game late with Forney let's me know on a good day we have the horses to play with most teams in 5A. Next week is the make or break game. We can't afford to come out slow. We will need a Herculean effort from Kedren but I think the game is certainly winnable. I'm not feeling as confident as earlier in the season vs McNorth.
  15. My son told me Coach Soderquist at halftime pulled out the white board and started drawing stuff up on how to play some of what they were doing. He went on to say Soderquist knows what's he's doing. We have a good DC. I think Murphy not playing falls on the position coach not the DC.
  16. Yeah I don't understand half the stuff we do. The offense looks completely lost. 1st down run is so predictable. All these high dollar offensive coordinators on Saturday and we don't try none of that stuff. I'm starting to think he doesn't even watch football. Pathetic.
  17. I get that part. But he's saying the season is already over and that no playoffs is already a for gone conclusion. I haven't seen enough for me to say that yet. Defense is better then he is giving them credit for too. We all know offense is the problem and it has more to do with the coaching then the kids imo. Let's see how they look tonight and next week before we say no playoffs.
  18. Development is a two way street a kid has to want to be developed and put in the extra work. They do enough to put the kids in a position physically to play at the next level. I see first hand the off season workouts and it's definitely enough. When guys like Kedren and Zion stop going D1 and not for grades I'll blame them about development. That's just me. I just don't see where you can point to and say it's a development issue unless he's talking more about as a football player and not physically working out. That I would agree with but don't have the time to type everything wrong with how they develope kids as football players. I'm just saying I don't think the play on the field has anything to do with them physically from off-season workouts.
  19. JT only beat them 21-3. So I would like to see something more difnitive then that. But I could see us coming out a little slow on offense. That WR they had is gone. He's at TCU now.
  20. Still half the season and he has already thrown in the towel. I'm wondering did he actually watch any of the Longview and Forney games. The defense played well against Longview and they had Forney in a tough game for the first time this year. At least wait and see what happens against McKinney North. I don't think anyone thought we would go 10-0 and that's how he is acting. Arm chair QB at his finest. Also saying the players haven't been developed is just dumb.
  21. You need to go watch his hudl. It's the best LB tape you will see outside Anthony Hill Jr and even then it's close. He's for sure one of the best LBs I've ever seen at the HS level. I'd put him in my top 5. Aggies got one. He's only going to get better. He's gonna play on Sunday for a while.
