  1. Thats my gut feeling. Maybe he just loves being in Lufkin and working as Quick OC. Quick stayed with Outlaw for many years too. I hope the program goes outside of Lufkin when that time comes. Some think they will just hand it over to Green. I find that hard to believe after the lack of success they have had. But stranger things have happened here.
  2. I remember hearing that. He wasn't looking to just camp out in Lufkin for the next 10-20 years. I think it's great when you have a great coach and he stays for the long haul. King has made his home in Longview and has kept that program competitive. But when you have a staff like ours that has done very little. It is hard to justify them still being in those positions. And this is not a knee jerk reaction by fans after a few seasons. We have been at this for over a DECADE now.
  3. Lufkin is an easy gig once you in a leadership position. I doubt Green has seriously thought about moving on. I'm sure he could've moved many times over. He has had some good years here. Not always the best in crunch time. He had the offense humming during the Stubblefield and Kordel Rodger years. Unfortunately those were some of our worst defensive years. I hate to even think about how it was under the former DC. Moving on outside of the Lufkin bubble puts your job at risk. He has forged 20 years of relationships here, with people who make or can influence those decisions. He knows he safe here. Schools in bigger districts or outside of Lufkin wouldn't think twice about telling him to find another gig. The same can be said about Quick now and when he was a DC. You think back to 2017 when coach Holman took over as DC. He came in from Chapel Hill and had HC experience in Houston before that. He got the defense back on track and left after a few years here. To accept the HC/AD job in Tatum. Coaches like that are alway looking for the next opportunity to build something. It's a luxury to get a guys like Surratt or Dodge to stay any length of time after having so much success. I think Green is just hanging around and waiting for his turn. He knows he set if it happens.
  4. Something some of us were asking for a couple of years ago. Not saying we needed the entire squad on varsity. But there were a few who could’ve got some playing time as freshmen. Especially considering how bad our team was at the time.
  5. I was thinking the same about Menefee last night. He has the experience and can help calm them down on the back end. Especially when it comes to making sure everyone is where they suppose to be. We having too many busted coverages.
  6. There’s a really good team under all the mess they having to fight through. Them boys showed me something last night. They almost knocked off Forney with Rb forced into playing Qb. Basically our 4th string Qb. And they held their own and never gave up. Our secondary is young, but I can see the potential in those guys. Waters, Timmons and Young can ball. Just need some more experience.
  7. So Kevondrick Taylor only had 3 touches the whole game. One of your most explosive players and that’s all he got? I’m with you PA..I don’t understand the focus on Murphy. He’s a good player, but we have several other guys that can carry the load. Kinda reminds of last year and them forcing the ball to O’Hart. Preston is your biggest receiver and you hardly throw his way. Some of these guys are being wasted here in Lufkin. I would also scrap the 3-4 and go back to 4 down linemen. Put Zion and Alexander#73 in the middle and watch them wreck havoc. I know it’s nice to have someone like Alexander coming in to spell him and not have much of a drop off. I say plug him in and figure out way to give them a breather as the season goes.
  8. Man it’s frustrating. You can see the possibilities with this team. Just missing something. I feel for Kedren, dude been carrying this team for 3 years and hardly anything is being done to help him out. Teams just fire off on him all game. We have other weapons that mostly get ignored. I did see a few good calls by Green. So I’ll give him credit for that.
  9. We have lost just about every important/big game we have played in under Quick. If it’s against a quality team. And it’s a must win game. It’s usually loss. With the exception of about 4 games in 12 years.
  10. Shout out to the kids. They played hard the whole game. But it was a 2 way street tonight. Bone head penalties by a few players and more bad coaching. Why are we punting with less than 5 minutes and down by two scores? And then there’s a lot of other things I noticed that have been systematic problems with this staff for years. Not gonna even get into right now.
  11. I would like to see Chin take on the role. He is bigger and has some speed in the open field.
  12. I said the same this summer when they hired a new staff. Some doubted it would make a difference, but I always felt they just needed a fresh voice and set of eyes. I still feel they will flip a couple of those games they lost last year.
  13. Time to buckle up. I haven’t had a chance to watch a full game. Saw parts of the Crandall game and didn’t see anything that concerned me at the time. But it was a condensed replay and some things have changed for Lufkin since then. Number 0 did flash watching them. He’s all over the field. Will be interesting to see how we match up.
  14. I went back and watched the first half of the game. And he is right about some bad tackling. I also saw some players take some bad angles. You hardly every see Longview players doing that and most of them tackle well. I assume all this is being taught/stressed here too..Being fundamentally sound is so important against good teams. Especially when the talent is close. Coaching staff and players will need to be dialed in Friday. Forney is coming in confident and will try to blow us out the stadium. Not sure who will be available for us. But we should have enough to win if everyone comes in prepared. I just want to see us get our swagger back.
  15. It's the same story every year. Just more generic talking points from one year to the next. Also not sure if there is anything else that can be said. It's all about the actions speaking louder than words at this point. No more of "we want to get that bad taste out our mouth." Quick need to look at Star Wars for inspiration. There is a little green guy on there. That is wise beyond his years that he could learn from. “No! Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Just get it done Quick. May the force be with you.
  16. Our starting H back didn't play against Longview. Not sure if he will be available against Forney. There's a huge size difference between him and the backup forced into action the past Friday. Gavin is about 6'2 250 and his backup is prob around 5'9 190. So prob won't be much use blocking. And to be honest, our coaches prob wouldn't use him much if he was available. He has only played a hand full of series this year. Someone said he was banged up, so that could be why. We have guys that can play. This a gut check game for the Lufkin program. A win gives the team some confidence and momentum going into the bye week. We prob done for the year if it's another blowout loss.
  17. They had video up last year vs Lufkin. It was filmed on the sidelines with some guy talking. He was over there with the players and a few others laughing and joking about how bad they were beating Lufkin. The Longview game is over and done with. Not sure there is much to take from it. Other than they are on a different level than Lufkin. Have to go back to the drawing board and come out ready Friday. All is not lost, but that switch better turn on quick. There was a time when people would say.."oh no we playing Lufkin after they lost. They will come in mad this game." I wonder if that is still a thing with this program..
  18. I was making a suggestion for things that can be done under the current circumstances. The staff is here to stay. I’m on record as saying we need a change.
  19. Two former Panthers, excelling on two highly ranked teams. Bug also got a key interception against Bama. Both played on the same Pack team. And to think we only got 4 playoff wins with those guys here. Thats one of my biggest fears. We will look up a few years from now. And only see 1 or 2 playoff victories with this group. Kedren is a three year starter and has never played in the post season. Hope that changes for him this year.
  20. Think thats the main thing. The offense easy to stop for the better coached teams. Especially if they have some speed on that side of the ball. I been wanting us to scrap the spread for a while.
  21. Out of 4 games vs Longview. Our program only scores 1 touchdown. Have any of our teams beat Longview the last two years? I think the closest we got is one of our sub varsity teams played them close last year and our JV did the same this year. Forney will be another gut check. That's a winnable game if our players and coaches come out prepared. If it plays out like last year and we come out lifeless. I don't think this staff can get them up to knock off McKinney North. Hope I'm wrong and they come out fired up and get rolling. We got the guys to do it. Just not sure our coaches will have them ready.
  22. I understand what you guys are saying. But that game will be much later in the year if it materializes at all. Still a ton a football left to play and several good teams out there to get past. Longview is Longview and will do Longview things..lol. I don't think they are worried about Aledo or vice versa. Both are light years ahead of Lufkin. We need to figure out way to make the playoffs and hope we can hit a hot streak.
  23. Does anyone know the last time Lufkin scored 0 points in a game?
  24. We play much better with a lead and allow Kedren to help milk the clock. We will lose if we try to get into a shootout with Forney. I still think we are in a better position these year at 0-1 than last year. But things will start to really tighten up next week. It's almost a must win game for Lufkin. I also think Tyler upsets somebody this year. Our playoff chances will prob go down to the last week of the season like last year.
  25. I'm concerned about our guys confidence, injuries and the X's/O's going into the Forney game. We came out flat and uninspired after taking a beat down from Longview last year. Will that be the same this Friday? We will also probably be without Zion and maybe a few others. And can our coaches get our talented, but young secondary settled this year? Honestly, Forney didn't look all that on film when I watched them play. But I also thought we looked a lot better than what we showed last night. We prob won't see another defense like Longview again this year. But it won't matter if we can't execute any better than last night.
