  1. My hope is that the program catches lighting in bottle. Cedar Park culture was set and maintained when he moved from OC to HC. He was trying getting BH culture set before exiting. I think he will do a great job with the athletes we have here. Just have to be patient and trust the process. I didn't get a chance to watch the spring game. But did pull up some of BH old games. Just to get a feel for the offense he will be running. The combination of Wallace, Johnson, and Waters will be something to watch this year. Throw in Taylor, Coleman, and whoever steps up at receiver. And we could have a really good offense. Plus the offense line should be solid. We will the ball being spread around and guys getting it in space. Wallace versatility to play multiple positions on offense could be an x-factor. I'll have to wait until the scrimmage. To begin forming an opinion about the defense. SideNote: I watched BH vs Laporte. Love Laporte offensive scheme. Nice balance of power running and passing. If not for Abseck being here, would've loved to see us run something similar.
  2. They do a lot of stuff behind the scenes too. Several of our players were excited too the personalized lockers they had waiting for them. I know a few that kept the cards that had their names on them. That stadium was built on a reasonable budget after selling the naming rights. Sidenote: Lufkin had a really scrappy team in '95. They gave Plano all they could handle that first half. Which during that time, Plano was still perennial power. That was former Denvis Manns senior year, they did a pretty good job keeping him bottled up. Funny seeing how there wasn't much passing in that game. And when either team decided to pass. It was usually setup from a run formation. Complete opposite from most teams now. Dr.Carters son, Jason was the starting Qb that year. Him and his dad handle all the team surgeries for bone injuries. Former Panther Lb/Safety Meneffee dad played DE/TE on that team. He's now a local business owner and has been honored for a lot of stuff he does in the community. Could name several players from that team and others that have decided to come back and lay roots here in Lufkin. Always good to see them and their kids around town giving back.
  3. We have been fortunate to have some really good band directors here. They all put their own little spin on things. But the classic stuff has been a stable here for decades like you said. I watched the Lufkin vs Plano '95 playoff came at the old Cowboy stadium a few nights ago. You won't notice much between then and what you see now. It would be nice to spice things up a little.
  4. I think any nickname that may possibly come. Will be done organically if the program to makes Abe a feared place to play at. Lufkin has a lot of work to do. The process began once we hired our new HC. We have lost so much respect as a program over the years. I think the climb to the top is what makes following a program exciting. The early years of Outlaws run were some of the best I experienced as a fan. Wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Looking forward to seeing what Abseck does here. I feel better times are one the way.
  5. Lol..true. It always irks me when I know more about an opponent than the guys calling the game. Like you get paid to do this.
  6. I think he could be hard to replace. But not in the way they prob intended for it to be taken. He did do a great job, considering the conditions he played under. Johnson prob better at doing everything Quincy could do and more. But he still has big shoes to fill. Quincy done everything that was asked of him to run that offense. I'm sure they tailored a lot of stuff for him. But when you think of how well he played last season. I think he has been the best Lufkin Qb in several years. Can't think of anyone who outplayed him. That includes the guys who played on the 2018 team that lost to Frisco Lone Star. His leadership and availability shouldn't go unrecognized. Dude wasn't that big, but showed up every game. And he took some licks, but kept getting up. I think Johnson will be good this year. But he has yet to complete a full season. My hope is that he has gotten over the injury bug and can put in a full season this upcoming year.
  7. I have to agree. Green says football, unless it's covered in snow. I could maybe see doing a different color for a special event game. But not the whole season. The novelty of it would wear off if its' for every game.
  8. PN has been spot on with his evaluation of young talent coming up. The kid looks legit from what I've seen. My hope is that new leadership can help develop and put the upcoming players in position to be successful. Having a dedicated strengthening and conditioning program is big start. You mention how it will take everyone to be on board, including players and parents. I talked to a couple of parents complaining about the $100 dollar fee for the summer program. They were still caught up in how things were with the old guard. Saying my kids never had to pay before. I explained to them that kids will be provided 2 meals and it's structured. Plus it allows them to give a little something to the coaches that come up and help out. And it's something for all Lufkin athletes. hey were more receptive after I explained this to them. And also let them know they will work with the kids who can't pay all of it upfront. I know football players in the past would just go up to the gym and workout. You would have a coach up there, but the kids were left to choose what they did and how long they stayed. Very little was structured or done with a purpose. I hope this new focus on program building translates to a return to long playoff runs.
  9. They just need the right coach to get the culture back on track. It's a team that could surprise some folks this year.
  10. Woodberry is a stud on offense and defense. He stood out in all the games I watched them play. Kinda sucks that the Qb bailed on the program as soon as a new head coach came in. But he may of had good reason to do it.
  11. Any idea where that LB that's being heavily recruited committing?
  12. Thanks. I thought it was Colleyville. Nice addition for their program. Always hate to see players exit. But next man up.
  13. I am interested to know what they said about Hunstville, PAM and Longview. I think Huntsville will be a good test going into the first game of the year. Thanks
  14. I'm sure that is outdated information. Bennett is at one of the Colleyville schools.
