  1. Thanks for the replies. I've only seen him on film and one game at Qb. I know he has the size to be a terror. I only saw with a few Qb carries. I couldn't really judge how fast or agile he is. Looking forward to seeing how him and Young play together.
  2. I see Longview considering a new bond. And guess what..it includes possible updates to Lobo stadium too. Meanwhile we have done virtually nothing over the last several years. Just some minor touch ups here and there. https://www.news-journal.com/news/local/longview-isd-trustees-to-consider-calling-november-bond-election/article_aad157ae-37f6-11ee-9dd2-534ceb2c3eef.html Proposition C, $8.565 million: Facility repairs, renovations, and updates to Lobo Coliseum and Lobo Stadium.
  3. Sorry, I should've made clear which player. Gavin the one I'm having a hard time figuring out.
  4. I think thats just the reality we are in now. It was like that in our old district. Lufkin will always be behind when it comes to numbers vs those schools in DWF and GHA.Not Those places are growing and nothing much here going on. We just have to buckle up and go knock the snot out of somebody. I think the current group should be fine for a few years talent wise. Will be interesting where go during realignment next year. I'm not gonna even try to guess. Never thought I would see the day we would be in a Dallas district.
  5. Are there any former or current HS, college or pro players he reminds you of on the offensive side of the ball? I been trying to picture how he can be utilized in is new position.
  6. Just a sign of the times. Expectation have fallen so far for this program. Coaching staff went from talking about making runs at a state title, to winning a district championship, and now just trying to make the playoffs. This during an era of 4 teams getting in.
  7. Well said PA..I forget how horrible I felt during Covid and just wanted some normalcy back. So I have to remember to appreciate everything we are able to enjoy. This is a favorite time of year for many of us. The season is quickly approaching and I want to savor everything you mention. I miss the long playoff runs and trips. A lot of great memories taking road trips with friends to big games. Nothing like packing some snacks and hitting the road for some football. And grabbing some good grub afterwards.
  8. I don't think he opened with it. But I heard that he did acknowledge he could prob get in trouble for it and sang it anyway. He just changed the lyrics from P to Kitty. Which wasn't much better. Sure everyone knew the context of what was being said. Someone posted on FB that him and his band performed at the Pines Theater. And that the smaller crowd that payed to see him and the band enjoyed it. Much different than performing in front of a group of teachers. That need to get stuff ready for the first day of class. They also mentioned, he performed the same songs, just without the band. Will be interesting to see what comes of the investigation.
  9. I can't think of anyone thats 6'5 240lbs that started for us last year. Those numbers may be a little off, but I could be wrong. I'm sure we will hear something in the coming days. Won't be hard to notice a 6'5 240lb player missing from practice.
  10. Lane also had his back to school drive this past weekend. Love seeing these guys staying involved in the community,
  11. Thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression he won Lufkin's first state title. You make a good point about coach Outlaw. Of course many of use are still around that witnessed all the great things he done. Who knows how he will be viewed 60 years from now after many of us are gone. Thats if football is even still a sport. Any updates on how his wife and son are doing?
  12. This has been mentioned several times on here. It would help offset the price of several minor upgrades. I honestly think the powers that be are just satisfied with the status quo. It would take some initiative to put a plan in place for sponsorships. As a life long resident and supporter of local athletics and academics here. I was embarrassed to hear about the horrible conditions of the locker rooms. And the lack of restrooms for other hosted activities like tennis, before the new construction. I know it's a long shot. But I'm even fine with selling the naming rights for a new stadium or completely remodeled one. I know there is a lot of nostalgia with the current name. And some wouldn't like the idea of it changing, but all things eventually come to an end. At some point, a group of people will come along and ask the question..why are we still calling it Abe? And thats not meant to be any disrespect toward what he accomplished here. But as for as I know, he doesn't have any family roots here. I have never heard of any of his family mentioning Lufkin or his time here. He went on to make a name for himself at the college level. I was actually surprised to find out he spent less than 10 years at Lufkin. I'm sure they could find others ways to honor him and that first state championship.
  13. There's a man on the Texas High School Scoreboard FB page, releasing drone footage of all the stadiums in East Texas. He's done a great job capturing the footage. Lufkin is definitely behind most of our counterparts. Even the small school stadiums are much nicer. I
  14. The word Lufkin never comes out of his mouth. But he makes sure to mention Tyler Legacy. This is the reality of the program now. Trust me..we didn't get here overnight.
  15. You good with me PA. It's something that's directly affecting you and your family.
  16. Glad to see Polk coming back and doing something with the youth here. There was a time, when stuff like this happened more often. Many of those kids look up to former players. Even if they may not be familiar with them. The fact you have someone playing/played at the next level, is enough to get them excited. Still boggles my mind. That we only won 4 playoff games after having Polk, Berry, Carl Williams, Braylon Garcia, Bug Thompson, and several other solid players. With many of them being on varsity as sophs.
  17. Looks amazing. Can't Imagine what it's like for you, knowing your son is having to work in nation at war right now. Will make sure to keep sending up prayers for everyone.
  18. Well said PA. We all appreciate what you do for the board. It wouldn't be here, if not for you and your son. Pray that you continue to stay healthy. Definitely more pressing things than football.
  19. Ok..I thought he was on our fish team that went 10-0 a couple of years ago. The district will be solid this year. Like PA said earlier..it's important to get off to a good start.
  20. Those schools always find a way to fill holes. Especially the really good programs. I remember the year Desoto won state. The Qb was a 4 or 5 star recruit that transferred in for his senior year. SLC did something similar one year with a Qb moving in from Oklahoma or Arkansas...can't remember which one. Those schools are always shuffling players around. I'm sure someone will transfer in from some place like Cedar Hill to replace Riggins at SOC. The Wallace kid would be senior next year. I'd love to have someone like that back here. But it looks like his team is on the rise. Especially with the talent at the Qb position. Not sure a move back to Lufkin would make sense for him. I'm sure he has formed new friendships up there and may not want to come back this way, but I could be wrong. I don't know the dynamics of his family. Honestly, I have never known this staff to be too lenient with players who move off and then come back. Just about every player I can think of in that situation. Was always regulated to back up duty when they returned. Zeke Francher comes to mind. He had a brief stint in Huntington and was never given a shot as a starter. They did throw him a few bones in certain situations. And to be fair..Jacovey Smallwood was a heck of player too. So no complaints there. We where in a great situation.
  21. Dude already looks college ready. I have mention this a few times this year. I try to avoid predicting how good or bad those DFW teams will be from one year to the next. Things are always fluid with those programs when it comes to transfers. You could also say the same with the coaches. You not gonna see the same amount of stagnation, the way you do in small towns like Lufkin. Quick will have to earn one of those 4 playoff spots. Nothing will come easy this year.
  22. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to watching this bunch over the next couple of years. I hope they are able to reach their full potential.
  23. I'm not sure. I'm leaning toward must of the guys that were left on JV last year, from that 10-0 fish team, would finally be moved up to fill any holes. I could be wrong though. Just basing off of what I have heard on here mostly and saw last year. The Johnson kid at Qb is the only player I can think of that is getting a look on varsity. Maybe some move up later in the year. I know this may be asking a bit much. But does anyone know the projected starters on offense and defense? Just the spots that are up for competition. We know players like Young, Hammons, Phillips, Menefee, Zion and Hooper are locks at their positions.
