  1. Lufkin just isn’t a winning program. Programs make long runs in the playoffs. Aledo is great proof of that. Longview is becoming the same thing. Lufkin is hoping for a good team to match what those programs would consider a down year. I wish I knew the bracelet better to figure out match ups. I do think we will be a 3 seed then it depends on if a defense can hold Young. I do think our defense will be pretty good. I think a disciplined team like Longview will cause problem but most will struggle against them. A lot happens between freshman and junior year. That group had great athletes but puberty and proper development close those gaps very quickly.
  2. If we want to look at where the flaw is in the Lufkin system. Let’s ask? If Longview and Lufkin swapped teams last year. Would the results have been different?
  3. Lufkin has plenty of athleticism. They have enough that missing the playoffs for two straight years doesn’t make sense. They have big guys to play line. They have kids with natural speed. Something is just missing. It’s probably a lot of something’s.
  4. I want to add I hope we are sitting here in December and I am wrong. I’d love nothing more than to eat crow. I have faith in certain people. I don’t in others. I do trust this talent to carry us further than the past. I’m very high on Young, probably more than anyone on the board but I believe he is a difference maker. I could probably call an offense he’d be successful in and none of us want that. I just worry powers that be don’t care that much.
  5. I don’t think it’s coaches. I’m more speaking overall culture of those that matter. Not saying Quick but board members. Community members that matter. Everything.
  6. But I have a feeling that will be acceptable. The expectation seems to be playoffs. Not playoff runs. It’s just fun to get invited to the dance. Not actually dance
  7. You are justified in those feelings. I’m a big believe talent takes you a lot less further than it did 20 years ago. Coaches are coming up with better and better game plans. Overall athleticism of programs is rising making it harder to just win on talent alone. I think Lufkin will make the playoffs but that road gets tough fast.
  8. Between Kedren on offense, who should be unstoppable. I think he is coming into senior year to prove he is the best ever at Lufkin to play running back. Zion should collapse the middle of most lines. 90% of the teams we play should struggle to contain them. You see teams all the time with guys of Zion’s talents crush offense until they run into very well balanced teams. Most teams are that.
  9. I think Longview and Lancaster are out of reach, will be attending both because I want to be wrong. I think we have a better shot at Lancaster. The rest of the games will be close. I have no idea what forney brings back. They played good team football last year and we just couldn’t get it moving. McKinney North should have been a win last year. We get them at Abe. Young had a record night against them last year and I bet he is a little mad about them calling him “overrated”. This is just how we know we are getting closer to football season. Side note I have Thomas finds his way back to Lufkin when it’s time for a new head coach.
  10. With the lack of blocking I’ve seen the qb better be mobile and not afraid to tuck and run. I haven’t heard a single good thing about the O line, both from my observations and words of those that would know. Play the sophomore and let the legs keep the pass rush off him.
  11. Always believed if the sophomore and the senior are equal sophomore starts. Get the licks out of the way before district starts. I don’t think the defense they see early in the year will be too bad. Plus he has a pretty decent safety net.
  12. If he is a better running than TJ. The offense is zone blocking. You have Kedren and Gavin back there. I’d start the sophomore. Everyone will be keyed in on Young. Gives a good chance to get the Qb out free.
  13. Looking at the few wins over the last 17 years is big. The 2019 lose I feel set the tone for the last couple years. That was embarrassing. Teams like Longview expect to be 4 rounds deep it seems. Aledo is another team that comes to mind like that. Some teams play to season to get in the playoffs, others play the season to be in the playoffs and there is a big difference.
  14. I don’t know much on RPO but I don’t think it would hurt with keeping the defense back a little.
  15. I don’t remember seeing Young play 7 on 7 last year. Does he just not like it?
  16. Powerlifting and strength training are two different things. Lifting weights and training for sports are two complete different things. More coaches doesn’t mean better. I’ve heard what they do in the weight room. Dangerously under trained is what comes to mind.
  17. I’ll say Nac doesn’t have one either. There are also plenty of good football programs without one. But I think more are turning to it. You see those teams tend to be healthier with less soft tissue injuries. I think this spring has shown Lufkin is good at getting soft tissue injuries with the amount of dudes that missed time.
  18. I don’t blame fans for not being worried. You see these 9th grade teams dominate and then what. Talent is here. That’s evident in the 9th grade. You don’t see it result in wins on varsity. Lufkin should be playoffs every year. Talent isn’t getting developed. Lots of guys looking elsewhere to train. Whether they can actually get to those people is different but dudes in the program see it’s not cutting it. That’s why Longview isn’t scared. They see the athletes. They are just raw though and Longview's are developed. Lots not pretend either like those kids are all going to personal trainers there. They just have a strength coach on staff whose one job is the develop athletes. Lufkin has zero. I see 5A teams starting to have two one staff. 2 3A schools in the area have strength coaches. It’s time for Lufkin to catch up with the times.
  19. Zone blocking was my least favorite as a lineman. I think it’s meant to mask a little of their inefficiencies. Young will be a terror this year. I just got this feeling. Kid is healthy. Another year older. Hopefully a little faster and stronger. Should be a lot of fun.
  20. Just means some college is going to get a great running back.
  21. That’s a very recent change. Good for him. Much more accurate ranking
  22. He is very underrated. I think the district he was in sophomore year hurt him. I think he is going to put up crazy numbers this year. I’ll say it now. As long as he is healthy, Lane’s touchdown record is in reach.
  23. She is trying to prep her nervous system for high speeds. Sprinting is part strength to move fast part having your system able to handle top speed. If top speed isn’t getting trained correctly top speed isn’t getting increased.
  24. Figured it was far off. That makes things hard for our kids. Wish we had some resources here
