I think offense comes down to Oline play. When teams realized they didn’t have to load the box to stop the run they backed off. We ran a sweep left last night and the left tackle was blown 3 yards off the ball leading to a TFL. How many teams have run 3 man lines against us and we can move them. The issue is obvious. The line can’t play. If I lose the line of scrimmage you lose the game.
I like JJ playing. His speed is an asset if they run options and zone reads. With everyone keyed in on Young that second ball carrier is a benefit. But we didn’t run those plays too often so oh well
I’m just look for opinion because I know ours differ. Who have you seen been developed in recent years by the staff. I fail to see much improvement in individual development
I like Mr. Kiel. I believe I have stated kids aren’t developed in the program many times. Honestly if my kid played for Lufkin I would be pissed about the development.
I’m looking to the college level. Agree on high school. I feel moving forward Young has the higher ceiling. As an Aggie I’m a huge Lane fan but I feel Young has the better skill set in the long term.
we are also splitting hairs over Lufkin greats. Don’t think there is a wrong answer. Just personal preference
It’s Young hands down in my opinion. I watched both. Lane had things he was good at at the college level but he wasn’t a complete back. I’m not saying Young is going to set Notre Dames touchdown record but if I was building an offense Young is the back I’m picking
Considering Lufkin isn’t even the highest paying district in this year I’d believe you are correct. But there are few on the staff I think I’d keep. Most of the offensive staff can go. Strength coach needs adding but that position can serve all teams. Special teams needs added because I don’t believe anyone named one last week. Simple fixes.
If Lufkin moves in from Quick I don’t think many will be retained and I think the new coach will definitely come from outside the program. I’ve heard whispers that I’m sure others have too but all those are, are whispers for now.
The Oline is dooming the team right now. It’s a coaching issue. I 100% believe the kids are doing what they are coached. But there is no drive off the line on run plays. Someone is almost always coming free. On pass plays QBs are scared because they know there isn’t time to let the routes develop on most plays. Which keeps the ball out of the hands of those receivers.
My question to those in the know is how do we have the size but our kids can’t form holes or move the line of scrimmage on run plays?
They have a 9th grader that ran a 10.3 100m last year and is getting all kinds of track attention. I know he is on the varsity football team but he isn’t football D1. Might be world class in track one day.
