  1. Young is bigger and faster than Tatum. So at least they will have seen that. How many guys are out injured right now?
  2. I don’t think Longview will either. On offense young will be unstoppable. Defensively they’ve shifted to an odd front. Zion will be a match up nightmare for every Center we face. That’s going to wreck a lot of game plans.
  3. As long as Young is healthy the offense will be difficult to stop by any team outside Longview in this district. That being said a couple round run could be possible. I don’t think any first round match up can play with Lufkin.
  4. Agree with O line big time. If we can get decent play out of them I think the offense will be difficult to contain. If Young progresses like he did last year he might win offensive MVP. Need to see more deep passing game to keep the safeties back. Defensively I look forward to seeing Zion get more snaps and hopefully take away the middle of the line.
  5. 8 have records equal to or better than Lufkin. Two won state this year…
  6. If the O line coach does open up. I’ll be interested to see who takes that spot
  7. I believe they will prove all of us right. I am looking forward to spring ball at least
  8. We can agree to disagree. My argument is still athletic development and those are sports, especially track that shows off athletes. You say we aren’t good at track or powerlifting. That’s true. We aren’t good at football either. That’s true. So again what are they doing to build athletes. They don’t have a strength coach on staff. Many schools are moving in that direction. The weight rooms of many teams are becoming state of the art. What has Lufkin poured into theirs? What made you good 20 years ago won’t make you good today. High school sports is evolving. Is Lufkin evolving with it?
  9. This isn’t back in the day. I don’t remember saying D1 kids need to be track stars. I said the team needs to show athletic improvement and many good track teams show that. Talent can get you far but we are lacking it. Yes kedren is a great threat but if we don’t have receivers with developed speed the safeties will play down like they did this year. Yes menefee is a great safety but there are three other DBs that need to be out there too. Do hard workouts mean effective workouts? Sure running 20 110s is hard but what does that do for speed? Sure squatting heavy is hard but is it translating on the field? The question again isn’t are they working hard. It’s are they getting better?
  10. Look at the list of lifters and tell me who was missing or who would have made a difference? We are talking a varsity football team that probably has more boys than all of central athletics combined http://www.thspa.us/meetdetail.aspx?passedDivisionID=6651
  11. I’m not down playing a kid going to state. I’m saying how many 130 pound football players do we have? I’m saying team strength was it there? That’s awesome he benched 300. 5 total benched that much. So by the second meet Lufkin held on 2/15 that team should have been set and they didn’t come close to being Central. Again we are talking team strength and speed. Do we have it? Yes or no?
  12. You want to keep living in this fantasy world that great football teams don’t develop their athletes. Speed can be build. Not 10.3 but sub 11 easily enough. Speed translates to all aspects of the game. We don’t have true top end speed in most positions. We don’t have high level acceleration because our athletes haven’t learned to generate the force needed to get to top speed quickly. The line can’t drive people off the ball because of underdeveloped hip strength required to be explosive. All of which are athletic qualities shown in track and field. Yes two went to state. But one weighs 132 and the other can’t make a hole on the left side of the line in the game depended on it. Kids should NOT have to go else where to be developed. That’s something that should be able to be fixed in school especially with the length of class periods Lufkin has. You are telling me right now Central, no football playing Central has a stronger overall powerlifting team than Lufkin. That’s embarrassing
  13. It’s got tons to do with it. When have they ever been anything athletically? They haven’t. They are building it. Do go sub 42 it means most likely they have 4 guys sub 11. Do we have one? More often than not fast track teams precede good football teams. FB Marshall was the same way a couple of years ago. You are defending saying it’s not that fast. We are slow in track. Our powerlifting team hosted two meets. Lost to Huntington in one and Central in the other. So we haven’t had a good showing of athletic strength or speed this spring. But you still argue with me kids are being developed.
  14. All I’m seeing is Longview is still miles ahead. We might have some girls coming in but Lufkin doesn’t train speed. I saw today Harker Heights’ 4X100 ran 41.72. That’s fast. They also went 4 rounds deep in football. We have to step up.
  15. Completely agree. I think he could have gone 10.6 on the laser but coming off a hamstring I don’t know if he will be able to dial it up fast enough. I wouldn’t risk the hamstring. Kevo has some great speed. He will be sun 11 soon and that’s moving.
  16. Mentioning without young is fair. Kid has clearly focused on speed this last year and would benefit the relay. If he has time to come back and run this year we will see.
  17. I’d disagree with that if practice and S&C are run correctly. Hamstrings aren’t hard to bullet proof. But I know this board isn’t ready for those talks.
  18. No reason it should have pulled. Much less in the off-season. I’ve been saying it for a while. Something is off with their S&C
  19. I see no Young on those results. Anyone know what’s going on.
