Fans calling for Kings head is crazy. But I can also remember some fans here calling for Outlaw head, after losses to SLC. The expectations are still high in Longview. It comes with any program that has a winning tradition. Not sure who their fans would want to replace him with. He's already one of the best coaches in the state. Felt the same way about Outlaw during the early 00s. The only thorn in is back was Todd Dodge/SLC at the time. Outside of swapping him out for Dodge, not sure you could find too many other coaches better than him.

The only thing I faulted Outlaw on calling a pass play when you inside the ten and you have the best running back in the state. Don't know if Green was the OC, if Outlaw should have over ruled it.

We would be too if we ever have a team like that again.  The mountain climb is hard enough, it has to be perfect, some luck and hope injuries don't happen to your key people. Hard to beat good teams twice. Fans are understandably pissed. They LOVE King until he loses, then they want his head on a platter,  even some extremist are say they should have never hired him. He has won a bunch there, more than any other Longview coach. I wouldn't argue if they were coaching here, it's hard to be a HS coach, even in Lufkin. B)

Yeah that lost hurts deep. That one guy ,the former player was talking about how deep the defense was and the run game just wears  opponent's down  in later quarters.  But when you lose on a field goal with seconds running down is a gut punch. But in 4,5 and 6A ball you got to have more than just a run game, because good teams will shut it down

I think they have pretty good idea how hard it is. They have made several runs and came up short. Before finally breaking through a few years ago. I believe they played Lake Travis consecutive year in the state title game in the old 4A classification. Never easy to win a state title in Tx at any level. One reason I have so much respect for the teams that have won multiple titles. It's a hard hill to climb, you gonna have to beat some really good teams to get there.

Tatum being out was a blow to the offense , but the first half it did not seem to slow them down. Got to give Lancaster credit for making the adjustments and shutting LV down, goes to good coaching on their half.LV has relied on their run game and defense all year, because the passing game was mediocre at best.

Not against Reedy but with Lancaster and possibly Forney looming again they might. Any chance of them beating Aledo may have just went out the window if Tatum can't go. I hope it's just preliminary why they held him out.

I believe with LV it's next man up. Tatum went out but they kept humming along. i know Aledo is good but LV  might be a hard team to beat

Man, you know the story. A lot of them are just all friends. One big circle jerk of F’n morons running the show. I mean, let’s forget about football for a second and just think about Lufkin ISD a whole. It’s a joke. So, why do we think something is going to change with the football program when we can’t even manage the finances or discipline correctly? We nominated an idiot to be superintendent because she had been with the district for 30+ years. She wasn’t qualified and now we have BS to fix. Quick also wasn’t qualified to head coach a 5A D1 program at the time of outlaws death and Idgaf what any of y’all say. It was a bad call from the jump. Stupid. But that’s how things operate around here. When that MF’er lost back to back games to Nacogdoches he should’ve been ran out of town. That 2017 Lufkin football team was so talented it’s unreal. They were 2005 good. They Had to be to drag this bunch of dumb shyts that far. And in the end what happened? Oh, we got out coached. Lufkin was better than Longview. We left that game doing the same thing we always do after meaningful games. Questioning play calls and coaching decisions. There are truly two problems. One, we have a staff that are too close with the people who hold their fate. And two, they legit have those guys convinced we just don’t have the “talent” to do more. They think we’re playing these good teams close because of good coaching rather than losing to them because of under-utilized talent. That’s a fact. Quick will retire once he sees a wave of talentless kids coming through. That’s just too much work for him to want to go through at 62+ years old. Watch.

Man you checked all the boxes with your comment, from LISD head to the coaches staff. Torres had no business  as superintendent . I don't know of any school districts our size where the superintendent education level does not have a Dr. degree. If I,m not mistaken there's only one in LISD management that has that degree. As far as Quick, I have been preaching his incompetence  from the roof tops for years

Porter's "Trash Can" band at the half is pretty darn cool. Original to say the least.  I love Lufkin Marching band and the State Titles and everything. Just wish they could do some original stuff a little different from time to time.   They march fantastic, they just look and sound the same year after year.  State Champs 3 of last 4 years Baby!!!

Then again we can just watch the bouncing Lobo band.;)

I thought I was the only one that had that wish about our band. Would like to see something different once and a while, but  don't want to see them running around waving  flags though.

These other programs are definitely doing something a little different than Lufkin. I don't buy the Caleb Beams analogy for losing is we have been playing 6A enrollment teams the past two year. ???? You can dream up any kind of thought you want about it, Beams wasn't around when John Outlaw  was kicking and taking names against the better HS programs in Texas.  Lufkin is probably the only program in Texas who are 2-0 in their history against Katy and Allen, even 2-1 against Spring Westfield. You can safely say this Panther program is no where close to that level today.  Longview had become our bellwether measuring stick in non district (they just kick our now, last three games 41-5, 56-7 and 42-0 says a bunch), last two years it's been AMC, and it has never seems to make the program better.  It's evident that Outlaw was the guru and the brains behind the Panther football success back in the day. He my have fell off winning playoff games his last five years, but he was still finishing 9-1 and 8-2 in the regular season. He had such a great 9 year run (1998-2006) of winning games and playoff runs. He had the Panthers in 33 playoff games in those 9 years, with a 25-8 playoff record, three State Semi- Finalist (2002,2004,2005) and a State Championship (2001).  Can you imagine that today?, 33 playoff games in 9 years, Quick has only got the Panthers in 15 playoff games (6-9) in his 12 years. These Panther players today don't have a clue, they can't even imagine the greatness of those past Panther football teams.  We see now that Outlaw was the catalyst and builder of it all, Quick and Green were part of that time too, but they can't even get a sniff of what that use to be like anymore.

PA do you know if LV streams their games

I remember when we lost to Garland in 2003 in the first round and nobody thought we had much of a chance in 2004. I'm getting similar vibes from this group next year. Nobody is expecting them to do much.  I personally think they're in for a big season. The district won't have 4 Top 15 teams in it next year and I think most of you are underestimating that aspect of it. I don't think there was any other district in 5A where we wouldn't of made the playoffs. The only game they really didn't compete in was the Longview game and nobody outside of Forney competed with Longview this year. They had a chance to win every other game this year. I think they're a lot closer to being a really good team next year then people think. It's a long off season but this was always the year before the year for me. They're going to be good next season and I'm going to be able to tell you guys I told you so.

I will be waiting to hear you say it ,and I hope you can, but a new QB  and running back yet to emerge ? O-line  will have to improve mighty to achieve any success. " I told you guys so would be music to my ears"

What can we do? Sad we can't move our kids most not getting developed to even get a chance at college.everyone comments are right.coaches stand around unconcerned.because they know they still getting paid.and if a parent says anything they take it out on the kids.i watched Green in practice giving baseball signals to the offense with no scheme.12 in the box kedren up the middle my God man at least get him the ball in space.defesive backs out of position.not looking for the ball .not enough space to talk about o line. Worst part about it.Quick sees the same and doesn't try to adjust. Durham secondary coach needs to coach track only .hate our kids will never experience true panther pride like the days of Coach Outlaw

Yeah Durham needs to stay at track for sure. He's got more experience at the Paper Mill ,than with secondaries....🤣🤣 what classes does he teach. ??

I still say lots of purple kool-aid here.  I went back and read posts from earlier in the year.  We were going to have 7-3, 8-2 year.  I read our QB better than Tutt at Longview and how we are loaded with talent.   Sorry to say but without Young we probably lose 3 more games this year at least.  Next year we still have no QB that can consistently get the ball downfield to some talented receivers.  Still won’t have an OL to open any holes for a new unproven RB.  Maybe will get some move ins?   Defense will be returning lots of starters.  This year I think their talent was pretty much over estimated also.  Big Hooper did impress me though.  The big guy up front needs to play with some of his intensity and be more dominant next year.   Needs to be an everydown player instead every other or even less.   I guess long time until next season but look forward to all the posts about how we will dominate the new district.

I agree with a lot of what you said. Our defense was slightly over rated in my opinion. Zion needs some  conditioning because I watched him and he seems to get tired. Also I seen times where  O-linemen handle him. Just maybe he was not 100 % healthy all year. Menefee and Hooper are for real, they were the glue on the defense, and I sure hope Menefee is ok.Next year will really expose those coaches, with a young QB and running backs. I don't expect a lot of change.

I'm familiar with the are. You can't coach size. But your guys could definitely benefit from being a bit stronger, faster, and better conditioned. All things that can be improved to a degree. Longview is usually undersized on the line when they face those DFW schools too. But hardly see them getting whipped on the line like us. Those guys are tough as nails in the trenches and use speed and technique to out maneuver bigger lines. Out saw it last year when they played Mansfield Timberview. Mansfield fans thought they would just steam roll over Longview because they were so much bigger. Longview was also smaller than McKinney on the line and they held up. So it can be done with the right people in place. Lufkin just need to start over.

Absolutely my point. We are about the same in size as LV ,but look at the difference in the play which translate  to coaching. As I stated a few weeks ago ,King and his staff could take this same team and make a difference..

Well now what? Wash, rinse, repeat? Despite a heroic effort last night and what I thought was above average play calling for this staff, we’re still 5-5 and sitting at home during the playoffs for the 3rd straight season. We all know what winning programs would do but that’s not us so. I guess we just hope for a lesser district next season along with what kids we have returning to make something happen.

Hoping for a weaker district is really coping out. We have kids that can play  at any level, they just need some coach that can come too Lufkin and bring about a change. Guys if we think things will change with some of these trash coaches "they won't"

So many issues with the program. And now a possible 4th consecutive missed post season is on the table for Quick. Lufkin O-line has to be addressed or this program will stay in the dumps. It was the same yesterday at the JV game. The line just letting guys blow past them. Not much resistance at all. We also just look physically small when compared to most of the other teams we play. We need a strength and conditioning coach.

You might right about s S&C coach but the larger cities just have so many more kids to draw from. Di d you just notice how much bigger some of Lancaster  kids were. That part of DFW has many cities in that area, Lancaster,Desoto,Cedar Hill, Duncanville ,you can go from one to another without knowing you have left a city
