Yep. Next season won’t be any difference. There isn’t enough talent walking around over there to save us from this staff.

Sad, but true. This staff has bamboozled this community long enough. I've seen more than enough talent come through here. To have a better showing than what we have seen the past several years. Quick/Green have done nothing but underachieve here.

  2. I stopped by and checked out the JV game yesterday. They have some huge linemen. Not sure how it will translate once they get to varsity. A few players did stick out. I was impressed with Kenneth Waters. The team was playing pretty hard. Saw a crack back block by one of our reivers that blew the Tyler defender off his feet. It got a big reaction from the crowd. Unfortunately the play was called back because of holding. I haven't seen a Panther player throw a block like that in a while. But the player that really stood out was #10 Carson Jones. That kid is a head hunter. And really stood out from both squads. He was all over the field and has a motor. Reminded me of some of the old Lbs of past Panther squads. Dude wraps up and puts a lick on you. I lost count of how many times the announcer called his name. Definitely looking forward to seeing him in the future.

  3. I get the whole 6A schools having bigger enrollment. But those won't be large 6A schools next year. The fact is Lufkin has run out of excuses. The being stuck in a district with larger schools excuse was started when Outlaw was still present. We drop in classification and it's still an excuse. There is nothing Lufkin can do about that. There will always be a few schools who enrollment on snapshot day will not be the same during district play. It's the price we pay when being place in  DFW/GHA districts. Those areas are growing, and as a result, so are the schools. It's funny, because Lufkin hasn't done anything at the 5A level. I think we have won a total of 2 district championships while being in 5A? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. All of Lufkin playoff success has come at the higher classification. We even failed to anything when we where one of the larger schools in our old 5A district with JT and Ennis. The cause of most of Lufkin failures, can be pointed at in one direction.

  4. Just saw the schedule for Hoopfest on Nov.20-21 Lufkin will play Duncanville and Beaumont United.. 😳

Will be good experience for the Bball team.

Temps are dropping and I'm actually looking forward to the warm confines of the PAC gymnasium. It's one of the few things this district has done right the last few years. Not sure how much more I can stomach seeing the football program spiraling down.

Well we all have opinions and I respect them all, but I lost faith in Quick as the DC in 2008 when Round Rock ran 4 or 5 plays and he never adjusted until it was too late. The only thing that made him look good is a lot of those kids where studs on defense, and Outlaw probably overrode some of his calls. Just think about it ,we won one championship ...one... and he was the DC. To be honest if we did not have Reggie ,we might not have won that one. Quick is plain trash as a HC, I don't like him and never will as long as he's in Lufkin as the  coach. In the western days he would be run out of town on a rail 🤣

That was actually in 2006. But you are right about things never being the same after that. I was actually implying that he could've sought out other opportunities before that. Maybe around 04 or 05. Lufkin was a premier 5A program at that time. Quick had the credentials to land a decent job some place. I'm sure part of him felt obligated to stay after Outlaw passed.

One thing that will always stick with me. Is something a SLC fan said on the old 5A Texas Board. He asked the Lufkin fans if we were sure Quick wanted to be a head coach. His reasoning was that Quick had been a DC for a while. It was prob the right move in the short term. But looking back on it, if you take the emotion out of it. And you see where the program is at now. A change in new direction should've been made.

I think fans have been more than patient with him. I remember PA saying give him a few years to run things his way. And get a full class in from middle school through HS. Think a lot of fans done just that. Gave the man a chance to get his legs under him as a HC.

As I've said before, think we have seen the best his has to offer. If there was anything in that tool box to "fix" this stuff. We would've seen it by now. Sometimes you have a home project you think you can tackle. And you give it a good go and just can't get it done. You either call in help or just step aside and let someone else take care of it. And when you step aside, you can't just hand it over to your buddy, who's been there all day trying to help you "fix" it.

Im sick of college football right now. I've had 3 parlays this year bust on the final leg. I had Boise St money line last night in the final leg of a 7 leg parlay. Saw the score was 30-10 with 4 minutes left so I went bed dreaming of my money in the morning. Woke up to them losing 31-30 😢😭 😂. Football is an unforgiving game some times. This was a week after USC botched FG cost me on the O/U vs Arizona. I'm convinced I'm living in a simulation 😂.

I had to take a break from FanDuel. Had more success with the basketball parlays. I've learned to keep it at 3-5 legs.

That was 6 years ago, and you are correct.  However, that same talent as juniors and seniors went 1-2 in the playoffs. Polk was hurt and could not play against Texas High in 2019.  Anyway, same track record of coaching failure and losing with good talent for most of these past 11 years. Doesn't matter what happens the rest of this season or next season, no one will remember Quick as a great coach, because he does not win big games, or win playoff games in his years here, and now may even miss the playoffs three years straight. He has certain people on staff he sticks with, who do not do a good job and he knows it, but stick with them anyway.  This losing is all on his head, and his legacy here will be reflected by his results and record when he leaves here. He could win the State Championship next season and it would not take away the mediocre results of the past 11 years. Just speaking the truth. I'm tired.

I was thinking the same thing. I would actually want him to step away and end on high note. If he did somehow make a state run. His legacy here has taken a big hit as HC. He would mostly be remembered as one of the best DC to come through Lufkin. Had he left for other opportunities else where. Heck..he may found success some place outside of Lufkin. He has definitely overstayed his welcome here. This train is close to coming completely off the rails. He had some cover when he was at least making the playoffs and going one and done. Now we looking at possible 3rd straight year with no playoffs. I wouldn't want to be him going into next season. With a possible 4th straight year of no post season staring me in the face. His job may not be on the line, but he should be embarrassed about the state of the program.

The lack of winning BIG games stick out. We have came up short on just about every pivotal game with this staff. There have been some huge blunders along the way too. Like giving up that 28-0 halftime lead to Longview in the first round. Losing in the first round at HOME against Texas High. I know they had some guys return from injury. And prob better than what their record indicated. And Polk was injured for us. But we had them at home and still had more than enough to win the game. That game really showed me how far Lufkin had fallen. I remember driving right up to the stadium for a parking spot. The lot was nowhere close to being full for a 1st round game at home.

The problem is I don't think they care, like water off a duck's back. Those guys are protected, there is no one (important that makes decisions) breathing down their neck to do better or else. The system to build a winning program here is broke and the guys in charge can't fix it. He may say or think he can, but his results since 2017 does nothing to prove that as fact, and facts don't lie.

And the powers that be, know the fans are frustrated. And at this point, even they know his staff is underachieving. One big problem. Is no one that matters has the guts to make that call. Too many moving pieces they feel accountable too. It's already been discussed about all the spouses and family members also tied to the district. There are mortgages and college tuitions being paid. Close relationships formed through children, friends and church members. You give someone their walking papers and all of that is put at risk.

It's just not something people around here comfortable doing. Has Lufkin ever had to push a coach out? I think most of them just moved on at some point. And does anyone know where Quick ranks for tenured coaches here? I would think he has to be toward the top.

Rightfully so. I don’t condone that kind of behavior in front of kids and other innocent people, but I’m glad people are voicing their opinions and getting their point across. Sometimes you just have to get stupid to be heard. It is what it is.

It's not the first time this has happened. I remember someone verbally going at the coaches after a playoff lost to JT at Rose. It was one of the years we had Kordell at Qb.

I,m kind of thinking in that same line as are the kids as talented as we are lead to think, or is that there are many of them just going through the motion and are just frustrated with the program in general

At this point it may not matter. Although it may be a little bit of both. I'm certain the kids are frustrated about the losing. This was a confident bunch coming into varsity. A lot of them had success on that awesome freshman team. But process and development doesn't stop there. You start to go up against programs that continue the process at the varsity level. And have good coaches that put in schemes to highlight their playmakers. Lufkin offense looks about the same as it did 2 years ago. Not much changed, even though the talent at the wideout position is much improved. Preston has always been threat. They wait until the 7th game of the year to finally get him involved. He could've been an asset last year too. But he was waisted on the sidelines in favor of upperclassmen. Kevo Taylor is not far behind. That kid is electric and should have more touches. Murphy should just be the extra icing on the cake in my opinion. Throw in Kedren and a good OC would have most defenses in a bind every game. Going Preston is the main reason the offense put up numbers this game.

I suspect we will see more of the same next year. Green is losing his get out of jail card with Kedren. He has leaned on that kid for the past 3 years. I hate to think about what the offense will look like next year without him. You will also be breaking a new starting Qb. I would feel better about him if he had more meaningful reps this year. Think he will have to take his lumps the first half of next season. He could be something special by his senior year if he continues to development.  Of course a lot of this depends on how well the O-line comes together. Recent history should tell us all we need to know about the chances of that happening.

The defense still has a chance to be really good. Not sure how effective they will be, if they have to stay on the field too long. I think the offense will take a big step back next year. You lose a lot of experience with TJ and Kedren leaving.

Lufkin didn't have high expectations this year. They were picked 5th in district. Just like last season coming off 4 wins nobody thought they would get 6 wins and they almost made the playoffs. I have been on record saying next season would be the year to watch. When they return 8 starters from a defense that's already pretty good. They're going to be an elite unit next season. That's you guys with these unrealistic expectations. I think they should make the playoffs this year but I wasn't expecting them to make any kind of run. Lufkin was just in a tight game vs Forney a bonafide Top 5-10 team in the state with mostly underclassmen. It's just funny you guys are giving Tyler credit for almost beating McNorth and struggling to a 21-6 win over Mesquite. They still have Forney and Longview on the schedule. You guys can fan boy out over Tyler but they're not anything special this year with their new coach. I agree with you on Green but praising Tyler for the same stuff you criticize Lufkin for I don't agree with that. Stay consistent.

I think we all appreciate your insight about the players in the program. Most of us were unfamiliar with the players on that 10-0. I didn't realize how talented they were until I watched some film on YouTube and saw a few on varsity last year. Your assessment was pretty much on point. But from one Pack fan to another. I think you are bit naive when comes to how capable this staff is. If anything, they have done you and the rest of the fans a disservice. By not properly utilizing all of that talent up to this point.

Not sure where your'e getting me or anyone else on this board having unrealistic expectations. I have always been reserved and cautiously optimistic when speaking about the success of this team. I don't remember anyone saying they thought this team would win district or make a state run. Now if being unrealistic is expecting them to be able to secure a playoff spot. Well then I guess I'm guilty and YOU are too. The irony in all of this, is that you have been the most outspoken person about this group. No one on this board has been more confident about them than you. I never said "don't worry the calvary is on its way" or "this group won't need the coaches to hold their hands" that was all YOU..not me or anyone else. And it's not that I don't think the players aren't capable. But it's only so much they can do under this staff. YOU said the talent would win out. That remains to be seen..

The season is not over and Lufkin still controls it destiny. Most of expected a loss in Longview. The disappointment and the doubt that came with it, was because of the way they lost. The Forney game is wash, because of all of the the injuries. And was always a toss up game. I think we win if all of our players are in. So I agree with you on that. Tonight a big game and I expect them to come out ready. Not sure what the coaches will do though.

As for as Tyler goes. Not sure why anyone would have an issue. With some of us stating the obvious. 1. Their fans are excited about the new coaches. 2. The team is playing better this year. 3. Lufkin can't assume that game will be an easy win. No one in Lufkin is excited about this staff, except a few people...And Tyler is not in the same boat as Lufkin.
