Kedren Young is Class of 2024 -DCTF - Whataburger Super Team -  2nd Team Offense.

Congrats Young! When was the last time a Panther made the Super Team? Thinking JaMarcus McFarland at DT..around 08/09 maybe. The only other player I can think of that may of made it recently is Bug Thompson. I remember one year we had 3 players on the list. Lane at RB, McKinner Dixon at DT and Alton Dixon at Safety. Heck..Leonard Hewitt may have  been on there too.

No one has anything to say about these DCTF  predictions? O well I tried.

Thanks for sharing PA. It's a waiting game at this point. I think we have the talent to grab the #3 spot. I don't see us beating Longview @ Lobo Stadium. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Quick has ever won there. And he has horrible record vs King. How many games has he won against Longview..1 or 2?

It's about the same with us going on up to Lancaster. Like Longview, they have been consistent winners. Just haven't had as much playoff success as Longview. I know we gave them a fight last year. But that was after 3 hour ride and them sleep walking through the first half. I think they expected Lufkin to just rollover. They woke up that second half. Especially after their band showed up. I don't think we will sneak up on them this year. Plus they would've already played Guyer, SOC, and Longview by the time they play Lufkin. So we won't bring anything they haven't already seen.

With all that being said. Lufkin has more than enough talent to challenge anyone in district this year. It will be up to the coaches and players to bring it all together. Lufkin is capable of pulling some upsets, if they go in expecting to win.

2026 Lufkin QB Javion Johnson back up to T J Hammond.

I was really impressed with what I saw from him on the 9th grade team. I think Lufkin is solid at Qb this year. I know TJ has been putting in the work and will come back with as much experience as you can ask for. That includes all the ups and downs of playing the position. He will be much better because of it.

I will say this about the Johnson kid and that 9th grade team. There was no fear when they faced off against Longview. I could tell he believed he was one of the best players on the field. Hope he continues to develop. Will prob need to visit some Qb camps over the next few years to aid in the process.

There is a lack of something there for sure. Kind of goes back to 2018 and 2019 when DCTF had the Panthers ranked either #1 or #2 most of those years in 5ADI only to see Lufkin pancake in the 1st or 2nd round playoffs.  Coming off 2017, it looked like the Panther program may be on the upswing.  I think after 2018-2019, that's when DCTF finally realized Lufkin could not hold up their predictions, and were no longer near what they use to be under Outlaw.

I have to agree with this. Too many failed expectations, for them to keep having any faith in our program. The most we get these days from them. Is a possible "dark horse" nod to make a little noise. I honestly can't blame them for feeling that way. Not much different than how many of the fans feel now. What has Lufkin accomplished over the last 17 years? Most of those years under Quick. Hardly anything in the post season. It's not too hard to name the highlights.

A 3rd and 4th round appearance in 2012 and 2017. We beat defending state champs Spring DeKaney in the first round in 2012. They were not the same team and had lost their 5* Rb to graduation along with several other key players.  Our biggest win was a playoff game against an undefeated and state ranked Westfield in 2017. Our coaches still tried to give that one away late. We beat 5th ranked College Station the year after they won state. We were ranked #1 that year. They had lost a lot to graduation though.  And we upset 3rd ranked A&M Consolidated on the road this year.

That's pretty much it for our program. Hasn't been much going on here. We'll see how the next few years go. I'm optimistic that things will get better. The talent will be here over the next few years. So no excuses there.

Going to bring up my once a year SMH moment towards fixing up ABe Martin. Other schools are making nice upgrades right now, even Nacogdoches with new turf , new press box and a new press box on the Visitor side.

Tatum is installing LED lighting at their stadium.

Sherman just passed a bond to build a brand new stadium with attached Field House.

Last year Lufkin did install brand new concrete sidewalks and driveway around the stadium.  New LED parking lots lighting in the students parking area. They also built brand new ticket booths, and a new concrete Soccer/Football Visitors parking lot.  So, I must ease up on them a bit because all of the above was long over due.

Here is hoping plans have been made for a brand new press box, new field turf and new LED Stadium lighting in the near future.  The LED's would make a huge difference and also provide the school with a 75% savings on lighting energy used at ABE.

My only real gripe is the scoreboard and sound system. The school needs to have them working at 100% condition anytime the place is used. If the Sideliners and the School District had used the Daktronics bid 8 years ago, instead of trying to save $25,000, the screen could be professionally maintained properly yearly. SoundTech could still handle the speaker maintenance. This should be done NOW, not later in August. BARCO was the company bid that was accepted for the screen/scoreboard in about 2015. BARCO's now out of the market for our type stadium screen the SIDELINERS purchased for ABE. This dilemma also limits parts supply. BARCO now builds Video walls, something quite unique, and somewhat on the same level as what a digital board use to be.  Link - https://www.barco.com/us-en/products/video-walls/led-video-walls  This change happen about 5 years ago, who knew this would happen. Anyway, there is a service person from the Houston area, that also sold the current unit to the Booster Club and school. If you haven't noticed,  the screen and the sound system have not been on par for at least the last two years, there has been a little something wrong with both. Maybe the district figures it out, who knows.  It 's definitely a reflection on the Lufkin district. I can't stand to see things done half butted, it looks bad, it sounds bad and it smells bad.  Hope something is in the works for ABE, it would be nice.

Just seem like we are always a step or two behind everyone else. Even when compared to smaller districts. I know I'm late on this. But was there a reason for Lufkin not to live stream the graduation this year? Not everyone was able to make it out there. I know of several people that live out of town and wanting to tune in. Jacksonville, Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches and many other districts had live streams available. It's 2023 and shouldn't be that hard to do. It has been done here before. And don't let me get started on the contractor that ran off with the districts money several weeks ago.

Until then Lufkin will need to grind it out with the current 7-5A DI group. it will certainly bring out the best in a team every week.  Couple of extremely tough road games this year for the Panthers.   I would like PantherNation to throw a little light on how things line up.  Where is Pack007, have not heard from him in a while, hope he is doing okay.

Think he mentioned something about stepping away from the forum for  a while. Dude was fed up with much of what we have seen and discussed about the program. I'm sure he will pop back up as we get closer to the season.

I am dying for some Lufkin Panther Football. Things seem to be on the rise with the team. If Quick decides to leave anytime soon I bet Green would be his replacement.

That would give us another 10 years of the same. I said it before and will say it again. The only way Green replaces Quick. Is IF we are coming off a championship run. If it's another 3-5 years of first and second round exits. Then they will go in a different direction.

We have to move on from Outlaw/Quick/Green coaching tree at some point... The program has squeezed about as much as it can out of those guys. Coach Holmes had a lot more success at Tyler High than Quick has had here. They didn't limit themselves to people in his coaching tree when he was let go.

I consider this current group as Quick/Green last hurrah or swan dance. If they are ever gonna do something, then this is it. They have a 2-3 year window to turn the program around.

I'll say this. I've been at every practice and watched the light scrimmage at the field on Friday. Lufkin is cooking with something. Gavin Phillips is leaned up and going to be a problem with Kedren coming out the back field. Gavin made a ridiculous 40 yard grab down field with Timmons all over him. I heard he will play some TE too. Hammond has looked really good. If he has time he can make some really good throws.

So we starting to get a clearer picture on the lineup. Now that it appears the Gavin will play some form of H-back. I assume TJ will be starter at Qb, with JJ moving up to varsity as the backup. I'm fine with that, just need to get the Oline straight.

    District Standings
    Weekly Game Capsules
Blogs from players and coaches (coming)
Hoping to get a forum jumping so that fans from different teams can actually interact instead of everyone only staying huddled in their own camps.

Check it out.  Always open to suggestions

Hello Mavchamp! Always nice to see you pop in man. The old 12-5A board..🐐

That's all that matters at the end of the day. Lufkin starting to cycle back up. They're going to be a problem next season. Especially when teams think 6-4 Lufkin is showing up. They're gonna be able to play with Longview next year. 0 doubt.

I agree with you about Gavin. I mentioned last year how I felt the scales tipped in our favor once he entered the game against Lancaster. I don’t think they had an answer for him. We may pull that one out if we another qtr of play. I still think Hammonds will be the starter. Too much experience for him not be. He just needs better protection and some decedent play calling.

There is a good chance we are competitive against Longview. The question is can we actually beat them in their house? If not, then it’s just Lufkin doing what we have mostly done against Longview when we have talent. And that’s be competitive, but still not have enough to beat them. To me it’s still just keeping the status quo. Now if we go up there and beat them in their house. Then we have something to talk about.

Lufkin will have some dawgs on the team. Just hope they are able to reach their full potential.

Whatever success this program sees over the next couple of seasons will have nothing to do with this staff. It will have everything to do with the kids coming through. My stance stands the same whether we go 1 round in or 5 rounds deep.

I have to side with you on this one. Of course the players make a difference. The question with Lufkin is what will they do with all that talent. This staff has consistently underachieved. If they finish 5-5..They prob had enough to finish 7-3 or 8-2..I don’t care if they go 0-10..That just means they had enough to go 3-7 but still found a way to lose every game. Lol

This will probably be the most talented group Quick has coached during his tenure as HC. A  8-2 finish and at least 2 playoff wins should be within reach for this group. If not a lot more.
