  1. And you judge athletic improvement on a 4x1 time 😂 then without the fastest kid? Then you referenced a 41.7 as some standard time with Harker Heights when in reality it's an ok time nothing special. Lufkin with Kedren could probably run that time if not faster.
  2. Power lifting and Track for the most part is an individual sport. Lufkin isn't trying to win a power lifting meet. Most kids don't even want to do it. Same with track. Sure they score team points but it's more about the individual then school. My sophomore or JR year we lost a varsity track meet to Nacogdoches. Trust me it doesn't matter as much as we think. Im not saying it doesn't help but we've had fast 4x1's and not have a good team.
  3. Dude we weren't good in power lifting or have a state qualifying 4x1 and we went 14-1. The Foreman kid use to kill us in power lifting meets. I asked my son if the workouts are hard and if he feels like he's getting better and he says yes. Once again you don't have to run sub 11 to be a good football player. Matter in fact more kids do not run sub 11 that are 4 stars then then ones that do. A kid may run a 11 flat but have a shuttle of 4.2. A lot more plays into it then just running really fast in a straight line. Shankle was faster then Keke Coutee but who was a better WR? They have 3 kids in the program that currently hold D1 offers and another 6 to 7 that will get next level looks. So they must be doing something right.
  4. 0 to do with football. Manor won the 5A 4x1 last year and they went 7-4 and btw no high school track program is developing 10.3 100m kids. Kids like that either just have it or train outside of school and have been developed well before HS. I've been told you we probably had 1 kid that could go sub 11 but you don't have to go sub 11 to be a good football player. The kid from Harker Heights that runs a 10.3 is going to Arkansas St to play football. I'm just saying not exactly a world beater. Reggie McNeal was gonna run a 10.3 no matter who the coach was. EJ Shankle was gonna run a 21.4 200m no matter the coach. Btw Big Gavin ran 11.5 100m that is absurd for somebody his size.
  5. Harker Heights has about a 1000 more kids then Lufkin and they have Deubre Hood who goes about 10.3 in the 100 and honestly 41.72 isn't really that fast. My son 4x1 took 6th in state 2 years ago with a 40.96. Im just saying Harker Heights may not be the best example and having a fast 4x1 has 0 to do with football.
  6. He is the fastest 100m kid at Lufkin followed by Kevo. He will definitely give the relay a boost. Just based on his 100m time last year. They probably run 41.8 or 9 with him vs the 42.48 they ran in Nac. Now if he can get it down to a legitimate 10.5 Lazer now we're in that 41.5 range. That could put them in the state relay.
  7. Denton Ryan won state last year with a 40.52 I believe. 10th place was 42.02. Longview finished 5th with a 41.5. Lufkin ran 42.48(Without Young) in Nac last week. The question is how much can they trim from that time.
  8. Yeah because going sub 41 would put you in the 6A state finals. Lufkin would need a 10.3 kid and other sub 11 kids to run a time like that. Maybe they could go 41. Something (FAT) but it's gonna be tough.
  9. What I'm saying is Kedren is such a high caliber athlete that it happens. Hamstring is a funny injury. My son is doing the same off season workouts. His hamstring is just fine not because he is more conditioned then Young but because he can't generate near the force running that Kedren can. I'm not ready to blame the off season program for not being good enough.
  10. My oldest kid hurt his hamstring during track practice. This happens all the time in athletes like this. Not sure it has anything to do with the off season program. My kid down here says it's pretty tough.
  11. I doubt they can cub sub 41. Kevo ran 11.04 or something like that last week. They need multiple sub 11 guys and Kevo and Kedren probably can but the other 2 won't get close enough imo
  12. Former Lufkin Panther getting ready for the draft. If he runs that at his pro-day I think he going to get drafted higher then expected. To small to play DE at the next level but might be able to play some LB. Someone is going to give him a shot running like that.
  13. I still give Longview the nod because they will be an older team but I'm expecting it to be a good game. Now the following season. I'd put money on Lufkin over Longview and won't think twice.
  14. I agree but they have some legitimate weapons at WR. I think the offense will ultimately hinge on QB play. Maybe Gavin can unseat Hammond and completely break the offense open. I also think the defense has a chance to be a really good unit. Going to have some youth but some good ones.
  15. That's all that matters at the end of the day. Lufkin starting to cycle back up. They're going to be a problem next season. Especially when teams think 6-4 Lufkin is showing up. They're gonna be able to play with Longview next year. 0 doubt.
  16. Foundation my I didnt need to be born to understand Outlaw layed the real foundation.
  17. Im going to post something BunzT posted about that Daingerfield team. That will show you exactly what it was like that day and age. This is pertaining to their RD Eddie Whitw who is black. On how he became the starting RB. Eddie came from Rhodes as an offensive lineman. Pewitt beat us the first game of the year , but Eddie, Arthur Clark Moore, Clarence Young, and some others never played in that game. On to atlanta. Same thing. Behind 9-0 at half. Coach Lane must have thought.......Screw politics I got to win some football games. In they came. first play from scrimmage they give it to eddie , all the way for a TD. Penalty Flag. Give it to him again. Same thing. Another penalty. One more time same thing and the refs gave up. Nothing in Atlanta could stop him. 22-9. Fight breaks out. My friend Clarence Young grabs two little white DB"s in the end zone and slams them together like two 2x4's. Everything in DF football changed that nite. Maybe all of Texas. The boys from the PVIL were taking good teams and making them great.
  18. Also a nice little tid bit When Lufkin Dunbar won in 66 they beat the defending State Champs in Wichita Falls Washington 14-7. In 65 Wichita Washington beat Nacogdoches Campbell 31-0(Extra thankful for Washington winning this one). Lufkin also won it in 64 over Marlin Washinton 20-7. So the 1966 state game featured the previous 2 champions. Thast is the little tid bit of information I wanted to share. http://www2.uiltexas.org/athletics/archives/football/pvil_records.html
  19. Im just glad I did the poking around and found it. Bunzt also said he will look into getting more pics. I know PA will enjoy these pics when he sees them. 12-03-2013 08;38;15PM.JPG (A real good read)
  20. A real special thanks for Bunzt from Smoaky board.
  21. . Lufkin dunbar had won the State PVIL 3A championship several times just before playing DF in their last year before full intergration. Not only DC Nobles but running back Marvin Mills. Marvins brother Curtis won the 440 NCAA 440 , setting the world record and beating Lee Evans and another olympic medalist in 69. Marvin also went to A&M and joined his brother on the 880 relay team as a freshmen where they set the world record then also. Lufkin Dunbar is/was the best team DF ever played. They were virtually a farm club for the U of houston and other colleges. Driving thru the monsoon on the way to nacodoches we found it necessary to buy rain gear. the town was already sold out. We settled for heavy duty trash bags. One play stands out and I may have it out of context. I think it was on the try for two. Within the 5 yard line James Howell grabbed Marvin Mills by the face mask and drug him out of bounds. The penalty was only half the distance . DF held on the next play and the rest is history.
