  1. I must depend on others in the know. Never had any experience playing on the offensive side of things, only faced OTs, pulling Gs, occasionally H-Bs and FBs. Different times, different offenses. No speads to defend, physical blocking on both sides, down and dirty. I've never understood the less physical stand up zone blocking. Defenses are different too, Hybrid LBs for slot or run cover. Still football, diffent schemes and strategies since all forms of the spread evolved over the past few decades. Longview still runs the ball old school at times. It gives them some advantage against a spread defense. My problem is I too often look at things with old school lens, which doesn't relate to today at all.
  2. My only concern is when PurpleNation mentions it, he has a credible eye for those things IMO.
  3. Look, the reality to have an OL that is inadequate more often than good, comes from coaching and not players. O-Lineman are not consistently that way year after year. Just saying. It's just not possible.
  4. I do not disagree with you at all. There are a couple spots for sure I've wanted to see changed for years now. That's no secret.
  5. Internal hires are common in a football program because all those guys are looking to be promoted and get a pay raise. It's a familiarity thing. Bringing in an outsider,as you say, to be an assistant line coach usually is because the HC knows them well. The family situation here within the Lufkin program circle is pretty tight.
  6. All I know is the returning starters and the talent moved up from last year's JV make them a more formidable defense than last year. Someone has already mentioned they are two deep on D which many teams only hope to have. Just saying, if good things don't happen the next two years, it won't because the talent is not there.
  7. I'm believing the OL will be quite improved this year. As far as QB, I feel T J will do just fine. He has the most experience with the WRs, the team has a good backup should he be needed, so I feel confident in the current setup.
  8. Here are some lengthy results from the 5A Region II and the 6A Region I Track Meet in Arlington last week. Lufkin boys and Lufkin girls had respectable showings at Regionals, although don't believe anyone moved to the State Finals next weekend. https://tx.milesplit.com/meets/514657-uil-5a-region-2-uil-6a-region-1-2023/results/919507?type=formatted
  9. There have been some coaching changes, some guys have moved up and some moved to sub varsity, and some rumored to have applied for reassignment within the district. I want to see the finished project come August. I'm feeling good about things.
  10. Thanks, I knew it was one of the guards. I remember his number, but not going to call anyone out by number or name. Will just need to see how things shape up. Coaches are fully aware of everything needed to have a great year if that's what is desired. They certainly don't need to hear it from me.
  11. You can't be a passive nice guy playing OL. You have got to have a dominating mindset over the guy in front of you, cause that's what they are intending to do to you as a a D lineman. Our center and left guard had a lot of issues last year. One graduated, the other was a sophomore. A year of experience should pay off. Football is not a sport for passive people, it's very physical and tough, if the toughness is not there to excel at your best, then maybe football is not the sport for you to play. Then again, maybe the way the game is played has changed, and I'm out of touch with the newer perspectives of how this game is played today.
  12. Lufkin D will not be a concerned, even more talent there this year. Will be a stout crew to deal with come fall.
  13. They need a coach like a Rex Hadnot type that actually played NFL or had success as a OL guy in college.
  14. That's a lot to put on an OC like Bubble Screen Green. Outstanding talent has always been able to overcome this. The 2023 and 2024 group of kids will be able to be their best regardless. Just as the groups in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were able to do with their great talent.
  15. Lufkin High School Panthers will be competing at the Class 5A Region II Track and Field Championships in UT-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium on Friday and Saturday! We want to wish all the boys and girls the best results possible. Go Pack!
  16. I will be watching for him. The team is going to be strong this year. No predictions, however we will be a tough out for anyone we play this fall.
  17. I'm curious why Lufkin does not use the visitors dressing room in the new PAC facility for visiting football teams? Also why they don't use the PURPLE LED lighting on the front of the new building? If you have it. why don't you use it?
  18. Thanks. I know TJ was not in some workouts previous to the start of Spring training. Hope he is okay and looking well. Need to get out there and see how things are shaping up next week.
  19. Luke Goode has been there 3 seasons as HC. The job was posted as open and Elkhart ISD accepting applications on April 5th. Goode is from Lone Oak, he was HC there, and offensive coordinator at Mesquite Poteet before taking the job at Elkhart. He also previously coach in Lufkin. He graduated from SFA.
  20. Word on the street is the Varsity has new D-Line coach (no name). Also Cook has applied for another possible position in the school district. Much the way Stafford was reassigned, he is now teaching at the HS. If there are any other coaching changes, promotions or demotions, we are not aware of them at this time.
