  1. Lufkin 24-7 will now face McKinney North 19-5-1 in the AREA Round.
  2. Really happy to see Kordwll's success in the Canadian league. He is in my Top 3 pick of Best All Time Panther QBs.
  3. In other playoff action concerning 16-5A teams. Kingwood Park 4 Hallsville 3 in Game #1, Hallsville 4 KW Park 3 in Game # 2 . Game #3 on Saturday in Lufkin @ 2 PM. Porter defeated Texas High 1-0 in their Game #1 on Wednesday. Flooding conditions in Livingston/New Caney area have delayed playing Game #2 in Tyler at Mike Carter Field.
  4. Jase Camp with a 1 out triple in the bottom of the 8th. Austin Lindsey with a RBI single to win Game #2 over Mt Pleasant 2-1. Panthers are headed to the Area Round of the playoffs. Lufkin moves to 24-7 on the year. Cooper Knight and Grant Stafford a big night on the pitching mound.
  5. Lufkin and Mt Pleasant are headed into extra innings tied 1-1.
  6. Through 6 innings, Lufkin and Mt Pleasant are all tied up at 1-1.
  7. Lady Pack fall 7-0 in Game #2 of the Area Round of the playoffs to Lovejoy. Lufkin finishes at 21-13 on the year. A very good year for the Lady Pack. Lovejoy also shutout Corsicana last week in two games. Lovejoy is ranked #15 in 5A Softball, Huntsville was ranked #11 in 5A, they were knocked out of the playoffs by #2 Ranked Melissa.
  8. Quick says the OL looks good and he probably said the same things the last two years. Do not know who some of the new OL players are in the rotation. There is some decent size there, they only return 2 starters from last season. You guys will need to give more input and be the judge about the OL in the Spring game. There is no doubt the DL has size and depth. Who plays DE opposite McClendon? Desmond Hood? Jordan Booker? Elijah Alexander? This defense is loaded. This rain will take them inside or at the stadium the rest of the week. Johnson at QB is someone to watch. Where Lufkin had almost zero RPO game the past two or three years, that will not be the case with Johnson. Could not find any stats where he participated in track, however he is listed as 6' 2" and 175 lbs, and just from observing him play he evidently has a good 40 time. Johnson has a decent and accurate arm in his short to mid-range throws. Scott Green coached QBs have many of the same tendencies?? This is in no way a reflection on a any Panther QBs real ability past or present. We probably have not seen a QB like Johnson since Kordell Rogers, Kewone Thomas or Jordan Moore. Johnson has lots of skilled talent to work with this year. Experience Experience is what he needs, and again I wish it had happen last year for him, however he will have a lot of help around him to make this transition easier. Skilled positions are really really good, the greater question is how will Green use it, will he choose to max out all options available on this team? Hard to say, glad I'm not a betting man. Lufkin is great at RB and WR. Chinn and Phillips will have plenty of yards, since the D will need to also concentrate on Johnson toting the ball. Chinn is fast, pretty sure he is faster than Young. I hear what Quick says, much the same as in the past several seasons, coach speak. I hear what the players say and where they want to be at the end of the season. I hear it, over and over, but I suffer from severe trust issues right now. Is that wrong for me to say? Think there is substantial facts out there for me to feel that way. BUT, boy do I want to see this 2024 group tear it up and make a BIG run, because the talent is there to make that happen. So, why am I not bubbling over with enthusiasm? Guess it's because I can't get 2021, 2022 and 2023 out of my head as a precursor to this year. How does a coaching staff suddenly rise to the expectations of a run at State, when finishing 4th place in district the last three seasons was a problem with a P5 RB that went to Notre Dame? Someone help me here. Some folks may disagree, although this new district is nowhere as tough as 7-5A DI the past two seasons, there are still some formidable teams to play in 9-5ADI. Barbers Hill, Galveston Ball and PAM are all talented groups that will test whatever the Panthers bring this year. However a plus, Region III is not Region II for the playoffs. Looking forward to watching the Spring contest just to see what has transpired in the offseason. Like I have said many times, just can't tell too much watching practice other than some individual stuff. It's always better when you can evaluate your group against an uncommon opponent besides yourself.

  13. Lufkin baseball up 7-1 on Mt Pleasant going to the bottom of the 6th. Hillis pitching a great game.
  14. Lufkin now leading 4-0. Why is Lufkin not the HOME team in this game?? They were the 1st seeded team.
  15. Panthers in week two of spring practice by Edwin Quarles/LDN Spring football practice hit Day 9 Tuesday for the Lufkin Panthers as the team has a little more than a week to go before the spring game on Monday, May 13. The Panthers, who are moving to a new district this year, are looking for a return to the post season and are using the spring practice to get ready for the fall. “The biggest thing is making sure all the puzzle pieces are as close to being ready to go as possible,” Lufkin head coach Todd Quick said. “We have to answer our questions or at least get the majority of them answered. https://lufkindailynews.com/sports/high_school/panthers-in-week-two-of-spring-practice/article_f5063f7f-c92b-5ec1-bbcd-2e43c452a958.html “We’ve got 48 seniors, we’ve got a lot of kids that are upperclassmen and we’ve got to find spots for them, whether it be special teams or backup spots, we’ve got to find those guys and get them ready to go.” Quick said at this point of the spring that every position is an open competition and an opportunity for players to step up and claim roles for next year’s squad. “Every day they come out here they are competing for a spot, and they have to come out with that mentality that no spot is safe and you have to earn it every day you come out,” Quick said. Quick said that so far he’s been pleased with what he’s seen from the defensive and offensive lines and that those groups are a big part of being successful. “The defensive line is really coming on. We’ve got some pretty good size kids and they are really picking it up and controlling the line of scrimmage,” Quick said. “The offensive line is working hard and those two groups are really getting after each other. I think that’s going to be the meat of what we have with most of the guys coming back. That’s where the game is won or lost, in the offensive and defensive lines.” With the other groups, including the skill positions, Quick said players have had a good offseason and put on some bulk and got bigger and stronger. “They’re getting after it and they’ve got their jaws locked in and working hard,” Quick said. “We’ve got to fine tune it and they’ve got to relax and play, trust in each other and build that camaraderie with each. Each group has to work together.” The Panthers’ have another week and a half of practice and the spring game is set for 6 p.m. Monday, May 13. ——— The Panthers are still looking to schedule a game for Week 3 of the season, but the rest of the 2024 slate looks like this: Aug. 23 — at Huntsville (scrimmage) Aug. 30 — vs. Longview Sept. 6 — vs. Nacogdoches Sept. 20 — at Tyler Sept. 27 — vs. Barbers Hill Oct. 4 — at Beaumont West Brook Oct. 11 — Open Oct. 18 — vs. Baytown Sterling Oct. 25 — at Port Arthur Memorial Nov. 1 — vs. Beaumont United Nov. 8 — at Galveston Ball Edwin Quarles' email address is edwin.quarles@lufkindailynews.com.
  16. Lufkin Panthers leading 3-0 over Mt Pleasant in the Top of the 5th. Panthers batting.
  17. What he does just makes it easy for other DC like Longview. They have had him figured out for years now. Even the Longview fans see the discrepancy and talk about it. I may not care for Longview at all, but those folks know their football. They've played a lot more playoff games than Lufkin these past 16 years, you must show them that respect.
  18. This, especially with Green. He would call the same plays whether it were Longview or Diboll.
  19. There is no doubt this 2024 team is loaded. In all honesty they shouldn't lose a single game on the schedule with 48 Seniors and all that talent. We all realize that's the way it should be around here this year. However, this program has missed the playoffs three straight years, in fact they haven't made any noise in the playoffs to remember since 2017. So how are we to view this year? With 48 seniors, what is there left for the 2025 team? Quick has not built much of a playoff contending program here in Lufkin. You could probably take a group of ex-Panther players around town and they could probably coach these 2024 guys to the 3rd round without a problem. Let's be honest. Guess I'm in a place of little faith and want to see it really happen, not just hear or talk about it. There should be zero excuses for success this year.
  20. Coach Todd Quick talks about Ja Lynn Polk being drafted to the NFL and what he meant to Lufkin as a Panther player. https://www.ketk.com/sports/lufkin-native-jalynn-polk-drafted-by-new-england-patriots-in-nfl-draft/
  21. Football was in the air Thursday in Lufkin as the Panthers hit the field for spring practice. Lufkin is coming off its third-straight season of missing the playoff, but the Panthers are confident they have what it takes to make a run at state next season. Lufkin head coach Todd Quick said the Panthers will have 48 seniors next season, a group they’ll lean on heavily. Coach Quick said every spot is open on the team and he’s excited about his quarterbacks who both will bring a dual-threat element to the Panthers offense next season. The Panthers’ spring game will be on May 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Abe Martin Stadium. https://www.ketk.com/sports/friday-football-fever/todd-quick-looks-to-get-the-pack-back-on-track-in-2024/
