  6. Another great Lufkin Panther passes through the football portal headed to the NFL. Polk finished as one of the best wideouts in the history of Lufkin football, that includes NFL standouts Dez Bryant and Keke Coutee. Finished his career at Lufkin ranked second all-time in school history in both receptions (131) and receiving yards (2,412, also third with 24 career touchdown catches. As a senior in 2019, had 54 receptions for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns before an injury ended his season, those 1,050 receiving yards were fourth-most total in Lufkin history. This earned Ja Lynn third team All-State honors from the Texas Sports Writers Association and the District 8-5A Offensive MVP after team finished 9-2 winning the district title. Polk broke his own school's single-game receiving yards record with 244 vs. Tomball High as a junior in 2018, totaled 695 receiving yards and nine touchdowns off 37 catches, then first-team All-District 8-5A in 2018. Ja Lynn had 40 receptions for 667 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in 2017 with an honorable mention All-District 12-6A accolades that year that helped lead Lufkin to the state quarterfinal round of the playoffs as a sophomore. He ranked the No. 67 wide receiver in the country and the No. 49 player in Texas by Rivals … ranked at No. 69 nationally among wide receivers by 247Sports . He sure excelled at Texas Tech and Washington. I believe he has a chance to do well in NE or wherever he can play football. Congratulation! A 2nd Round pick is still impressive.
  7. FYI - Lufkin, Kingwood Park and Huntsville Softball all advance to the Area Round from 16-5A.

  9. Just looking at all of those names, some top rated athletes in that group. If you just think a minute, it's hard to realize that Lufkin only has played for and won only one State Title. Especially that group from 1998 to now.

  11. Is there a requirement by UIL that a 5A school must provide baseball and softball? Tyler High should have the option to drop their baseball and softball programs. Those programs have been non competitive for years and years now. Tyler High baseball only scored 10 runs in all of district play and their girls softball scored only 4 runs all district. I just don't see how getting beat 18-0, 21-0 and 27-0 helps the district they play. I'm thankful that our Lufkin High sports across the board are for the most part competitive year in and year out. Yes there have been some down years in some areas but over all they all usually compete and represent well. There are a couple areas where we tend to lack, particularly participation in girls track seems to be down. Some of the other sports like swimming and golf I don't know much about. Our Cross Country seems to be equaled by Hudson these past few years. Of course we all would like to see football back in the playoffs, Boys basketball has been in high gear and consistent for many years now. Right now Lufkin baseball and softball are playoff teams and that's pretty good place to be right now, so Go Pack!

  13. Lufkin's win over KWP and Porters win over Nacogdoches determined the #2 and #3 seeds for the playoffs. A big deal and the reason KWP were in a must win situation last night. Neither wanted to face Hallsville or Whitehouse in the first round. KWP also needed a Porter loss to take 2nd place because Porter had the head to head advantage. A gritty come from behind win by the Pack too on their Senior night. They were down 3-0 early in the 2nd inning, things didn't look good, KWP was ripping the ball pretty good and Lufkin pitching was walking and hitting batters on base. Then Stafford hits a Grand Slam bomb over the right field fence to change things in a big way. KWP kept coming, they had more opportunities to score but Lufkin made the plays on defense to thwart any comeback on KWP part. KWP have a couple guys that can really rip the ball. Solid win by the Pack to finish out district play. If you have not seen them play, Kingwood Park and New Caney Porter are very good teams, Lufkin won 2 of 3 from both, all were tightly contested games. Huntsville is a good team too, they just got mixed up in a very competitive district, they beat Porter three times and won one against KWP too. 16-5A Baseball Final Standings W L W L T Lufkin Panthers 13 2 21 7 0 Porter Spartans 10 5 24 6 1 Kingwood Park Panthers 9 6 22 9 0 Huntsville Hornets 8 7 16 13 0 Nacogdoches Dragons 3 12 7 21 1 Dayton Broncos 2 13 10 20 0
  14. Lufkin wins 5-3 over Kingwood Park tonight. Pack had 11 hits, with a grand slam by Grant Stafford. Lufkin finishes district play @ 13-2. Panthers are 21-8 on the year.
  15. Yea, New England Patriots. Not one of my favorite teams. Glad he made it, another Lufkin player in the NFL.
