  1. Okay, I can accept the better players. That has been evident the past 3 or 4 years. Was it 2021 Lufkin only had their punter recruited?
  2. Okay, no practice anywhere outside today. Looks like they are inside with the doors up. Headed back to house, maybe will get another glimpse of them Monday. I'm not really too worried about next season. All the Green experts say it's between the Lobos, Lancaster and Forney. I can hardly wait for the season to start. Go Pack!
  3. It shows when we play the Lobos or any physical team. Didn't have that issue back in the first 10 years with Outlaw. A different time and different kids now, except in Longview.
  4. Anyone know if there is a Spring Roster posted out there, or will there be a need to design something after the Spring game?
  5. That's a great idea, long over due. Lots more people can come watch the game.
  6. I'm asking this question to anyone out there who KNOWS, however primarily directed toward Purple Nation. Longview is known for tough physical and mental workouts, and play on the field. They are extremely physical against each other in their practice regiment. IMO that pays dividends to their success. How do you rate Lufkin's football workouts in comparison?
  7. Nice move. Is it because Nacogdoches is renovating their Press Box at the stadium? Or has that already been done? If Lufkin has any plans for Press Box replacement or any stadium renovations, it has not been announced. There were rumors in 2021 that a new press box and some new LED stadium lighting may happen. That was two years ago, nothing yet. The main goal currently for the district is finishing the Middle School. Don't think ABE falling behind most of our competitors stadiums, even Nacogdoches, is high on the list for many in our leadership. Just a reminder, ABE is still using their original 1973 Press Box. Yes, Abe Martin will be 50 years old in August. Our folks know, because those same administrators attend Panther out of town games and see where our opponents play thier home games. An FYI add on, the Turf is worn and needs replacing too. Hey, there has been some postives, there are some new ticket booths, brand new concrete driveways and a new visitor parking lot by the soccer field, so things have shown some progress. Looking forward for the next phase of improvements whenever they happen.
  8. Yea, I went by to check out, however the sky was dark and ominous. It started to rain, so I knew it was a no go today.
  9. LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Over in Lufkin, the high school practice field would be a little soggy to run drills, not to mention nearby lightning, but in the indoor practice facility it would be safe, warm and dry for the Lufkin Panthers football team, who are finishing up there last days of spring practice. Head Coach Todd Quick says so far he likes what he sees. https://www.ktre.com/2023/05/10/lufkin-football-finishing-up-spring-practice/ “Well it’s been good, I mean we still got some days left,” he said. “We’ll go all the way through next Monday, but we’re real pleased with the older guys. We feel like we know right now who the ones are going to be and we’re working the younger guys a lot right now.” And Lufkin Panther fans will soon be given a sneak peek at what the team is all about in a spring game coming up next Monday. “Yeah, we’re going to go Monday at six o’clock. We’ll go 3 quarters get everybody in and get it on,” he said. Following the spring game the team will be given a week off, and then Coach Quick says they will go right back to work. “We’re not gonna set em free very long,” the coach pointed out. “They will get a week off and then we’ll start the summer program and get them up here during the month of June and July and get ready to go.” The Lufkin Panthers showing signs that they are already ready to go as they continue to prepare for next season. 10. Like what we are hearing and witnessing this Spring with the 2023 Panther group. Personally not worried about the talent and their ability to play at a high level. Possibly the 2017, maybe 2018 group were the last to pocess this type talent, made it to Rounds 4 and 2 respectively those years. If the leadership of this program are worth their salt, they should do better than those 2017-18 teams. IMO much of any extended success rest on their shoulders. Trying very hard to not over emphasis expectations for 2023 and 2024. However the hope is strong. Lots of kids looking goid out there.
  11. Great to hear from you, and hope your well. I'm still here too, had tough 2022, hope that is behind me, although still need checked every 3 months for awhile. Looking forward to the next 2 Panther seasons for sure. My perspective is a little different now. Go Pack!!
  12. Here we are the first part of May and all we have to talk about now is football, maybe about hiring or promoting a Volleyball coach. Panther Spring game is Monday, May 15th, starts with JV and Freshman at 4:30 or 5 PM with the Varsity to follow about 6 PM. So we can see what to look forward to in August and a very tough and highly talented 7-5A football district. Lufkin has at least one more year of this district, then hope we go back south again. Anyway, teams like Lancaster and Forney are most likely moving up to 6A depending on the designated cutoff. Longview will be on the high end of the bubble, but they have a way of counting 1/2 students that may keep them 5ADI. Lufkin will remain 5ADI for sure. Not sure about West and North Mesquite. McKinney North won't go 6A but they will most likely be somewhere else than with 3 East Texas schools.. Until then Lufkin will need to grind it out with the current 7-5A DI group. it will certainly bring out the best in a team every week. Couple of extremely tough road games this year for the Panthers. I would like PantherNation to throw a little light on how things line up. Where is Pack007, have not heard from him in a while, hope he is doing okay. I'm going to briefly touch on coaching trust, because I think this is a reason some members do not talk here any longer. it has become like beating a dead horse. Most of you know how I feel, but that's about the extent of me talking about it here these days. I do think it make a difference when we play better teams, and will leave it at that. This is going to be a great group of kids to watch play the next couple of years and I hope they are allowed to use their full potential to be successful. Our Superintendent Lynn Torres is stepping down in June 2024, I strongly suspect the same will happen elsewhere too. It will be interesting to see who takes over the baseball program and who heads up the Volleyball girls moving toward the end of the 2024 school year.
  13. Looks like Lancaster, Longview and Forney will be loaded again. Tyler has a new coach and they always have talent. McKinney North will be right there. No one in that group is suspecting Lufkin to be a player in the 2023 district race. Lufkin has been out of any real playoff mix for so long, they will need to prove they belong again. Let's not fool ourselves, 7-5A is one tough district. Truth is, unless the Panther can pull off at least one win on the road against Longview or Lancaster and win at least one at home against Forney or McKinney North your still looking at fighting to make a 3rd or 4th place finish in district, maybe no playoffs. The district is that good.
  14. To be perfectly honest, I really do not get heavily into Spring practice. To me it's a time for coaches to find and put together the pieces and parts they think will be starters in the fall. That's when we see the finished product of a team. We probably won't see K. Young, not sure he will even play the Spring game. They have some veterans returning, coaches know their value already, and they have been working out for many weeks before practice with pads started. The coaches already know the new guys, who they want and where. Spring practice is the building blocks time. From now until August 30th, there will be 7 on 7 and practice again in August, working to find the chemistry to play together on the same page. Really like what I see and hear moving forward to the 2023 season.
  15. Has Menefee put on some weight in the off-season? If so, he could be a big fast ILB, if he wasn't so good at Safety.
  16. Freshman and JV start about 4:30 - 5 PM, then Varsity about 6 PM.
  17. We will see, thumbs up until we see the accumulative results later in the fall. Can't help it, I suffer with a trust issues syndrome, from too many seasons of disappointments. However, I do trust your judgement, and remain positive always, hopeful in your predictions for 2024 and 2025.
