Yes, don't have the Nederland score or the two scores from today's games. I frankly need help when it comes to girls sports, not because I don't care, I don't go to watch them play. There was a day I made it out to watch as much Lufkin sports as possible. That has narrowed down to boy's football, basketball and baseball. Now, if the girls make a playoff run, like in softball a few years ago, I made the trips then to support them. After doing this for over 21 years, I've gotten to the point in my life of just wanting to go watch games that I want and hoepfully get some help with some of the other sports news. PackAttack
I guess the girls are 1-6. Not much info out there to use. They were 10 run ruled in 5 innings in Porter. It's the 1st time Porter softball has ever made the playoffs. Lufkin softball is not in a great place right now. neither is girls track. Basketball is not at a level it use to be either. We know where football has been, with a expected upswing over the next 2 years, than WHAT? At some point you can't depend strictly on great talent, you have to still coach players to win. Lufkin baseball is not done this year, and we will see how things pan out next year with some new leadership. Lufkin Cross Country teams seem to hold their own, except Hudson has more and runners just as good as Lufkin. Lufkin boys basketballs looks to be the premier sport on campus right now, the next 2 or 3 years should be fun to watch. The great talent will continue from the past two years. McManus has done a great job. How's golf, swimming and power lifting doing these days?
LufkinPack
Lufkin softball is horrible. There is not much talent on the middle school campus either. A few talented girls but nothing special. They can’t field any youth teams, and hardly any Lufkin ISD girls are playing tournament softball. Idk how we continue to field a JV and Varsity team honestly lol It’s a bummer honestly. I’m probably gonna end up having to move my youngest daughter to another school for softball because Lufkin Just does no good for them. Idk why we can’t just be normal and want better. PackAttack
Those girls playing softball for Lufkin currently play hard, they give it the best they have in the games I've seen. There is a noticeable difference in some cases between our players and opposing teams in size and talent. I'm proud the girls that are playing for Lufkin are there, I don't know if they are young or not. Pitching seems to be a BIG deal in girls softball, if you have one or two dominating pitchers, that is an advantage. Lufkin has the one pitcher and she seems adequate for the most part, sometimes teams hit her, and other times the D behind her can be shaky. All these things could be fixed at Lufkin if the school wanted the sports programs to be top notch. They would make a way for the top talent to stay and play at Lufkin. We see that has not been the case. If they stay fine, if not fine. Doesn't seem extra effort is made to attract or keep them in the Lufkin sports programs. Not my intention to leave out our Girls Volleyball success these past two seasons. Coach Flores is doing a great job with that program. It was frankly an oversight on my part in my discussing LHS sports programs. Our situation is no different than other school, for example Longview. The Lobos are super dominate in football, and while they do have other competitive programs on campus, none are close to football. No school is great at every sport, at least I'm not aware of any school. Remind me if I'm in error there. A school is normally only able to highly excel at three or four sports, boys and girls combined at any one time. Some 5As or 6As possibly five, not often. Currently Lufkin is excelling most at Boys Basketball and Girls Volleyball, maybe slide in Boys Baseball ??, hopefully football can be reasserted back up there soon. I can not attest to track, cross country,, golf or swimming success. Kids go out to compete and want to do their best or they would never sign up to play. You always hope they have good leadership there for them to help them achieve success. Lots of phenomenal atheltes and competition out there in Texas today, it makes my head spin everytime I attended the State 7 on 7 Championships. The same thing when you see these 6'4 and 6'5 girls playing Volleyball and Basketball in HS. Lufkin is up against a ton of talent in 5A DI, especially from the metro schools, whatever sport it may be. Our kids against the HS transfer portal. Volleyball is the best program going right now. Not just talent wise or success, but overall discipline and order within the entire program. Middle school, PVA, Club, high school. All of it. That is great to know, and makes you realize the coach is going the extra mile to cross her T's and Dot the I's to make sure the program is good from top to bottom.
