  1. Lufkin Panthers’ varsity boys soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Kingwood Park, which clinched the district championship with the tie. Angel Lopez scored for Lufkin with just 31.9 seconds for the tie. The Pack (8-3-8, 3-1-4) wraps up district play with a match at Nacogdoches on Friday night.
  2. Whatever time the team has their off season workouts, if it's the last period, he would probably be there.
  3. Final 54-49 Shallowater. Huntington coach is a bubble head for not running some clock and running set plays in the last couple minutes in regulation with a 5 point lead. He could have avoided OT and losing his best player to fouls. He thought his D was going to win for him. Twenty Six TO in a State Championship game ???? They came down and just threw stuff up.
  4. We at Lufkin Panther Sports would like to wish the best this morning to the Huntington Girls Devilettes (36-6) as they take on Shallowater (27-12) in the Class 3A State Championship game at 10 AM in San Antonio at the Alamodome. Listen @ https://q1077.com/
  5. Well, you know? NVM When they hired Chris Simmons last year, you had to know there was going to be a sharing of the responsibility there somewhere. Two people in different locations can cover more ground than two in one place. I will not surmise more. JAM Digital has already been covering both girls and boys at the same time, one live video at home and the other audio broadcast on the road. Gary Ivins has been doing this a long time for Lufkin, starting with football probably 18-19 years ago. It doesn't move me one way or another about who calls what, I don't have a dog in that hunt. If there is one thing I've learned in my life is, change is constant, it's ever moving and unstoppable. I've witnessed that often in my life, you've witnessed it in the Lufkin football program and in many things around us. Not much ever stays the same. Was just thinking, you know if I were a LHS soccer fan I'd be ticked off a little cause they don't get any media coverage at LHS. Football, Volleyball, boys and girls Basketball, then Baseball and Softball get all the play by play coverage. NVM, don't want to open that can of worms. Like I said, I'm not in the hunt anymore. If you have been paying attention, Lufkin iSD and LHS have already announced some new administrative hiring's and positions in their media. As has already been mentioned here by other folks here, there could be more key changes taking place in the district on several levels. There will be more noticeable changes ahead to talk about too. Keep your ear to the ground, you might just hear something before it breaks.

  7. Lufkin baseball beat John Paul, play Huntsville at 3:45 PM Pack baseball then falls in 8 innings - 5-4 to Huntsville. Lufkin will play again on Saturday at 11;15 AM.
  8. If anyone is still interested in watching some playoff basketball locally. Lufkin is hosting the 6A REGION II Boys Tournament at the Lufkin PAC this weekend. Aldine Nimitz(25-12) vs Rockwall (23-13 @ 5:30 PM Mansfield Lake Ridge (30-6) vs Cypress Ranch (26-11) @ 7:30 PM Lufkin lost 56-40 at the PAC back on 12/9/23.

  11. Former Galena Park North Shore offensive coordinator Andrew Cameron suspended three years, head coach Willie Gaston suspended for two district games by UIL for recruiting infractions.
  12. Getting text and messaging from folks about what's going down in Lufkin??? There is nothing we can confirmed going down, and if there is, I'm sure the media will advise about such a things in due time. We know nothing of fact, have heard some things from several folks. Can't speak on hearsay on the LPS site, would rather wait to see what, if anything, transpires or not from these conversational stirrings. It's complicated when dependable sources have given seemingly credible information. It's more advantageous to properly confirm before making any comment here in error.
  13. I will say one thing about the Lobo playoff run. They have not had to play a single district winner yet and have had a playoff draw with 2nd and 3rd place teams so far. Same with The Colony in their next game. Not saying that intending to be negative, you have to play who makes it to this point, just saying things have fell nicely for Longview so far. A win is a win and an advance is an advance. Hey, Lufkin got knocked off by a 2nd place team and had to go to OT with a 4th place team in the 1st round.
  14. FYI - (26-5) Lancaster beat (24-12) Nacogdoches 75-52 in the 5A boys basketball playoffs last night, officially ending District 16-5A representation in the playoffs. Nacogdoches finished 2nd in our district and lost twice to the Panthers 50-45 and 55-46 respectively.
  15. Lufkin boys soccer (9-3-6, 4-1-2) shut out Porter, 8-0 on the road Tuesday night. The Pack will host Dayton this Friday night. Lufkin girls soccer blanked New Caney Porter, 7-0, in District 16-5A play at Jase Magers Soccer Field on Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers (6-8-1, 5-2) will play at Dayton on Friday. Lufkin JV girls won 1-0 over Porter.
  16. Lufkin softball dropped a 4-3 decision to Henderson in non district play. The Lady Panthers (9-3) return to action Thursday when they compete in the Southwest Texas Invitational.
  17. Well, the Azalea Springs Solar Park is in Pollock Central ISD. We may not have LI, TF or TI as big and proud as they once were. Lockheed is here, the Medical jobs have tripled since the Outlaw days, GP is still in Diboll, Baker- Hughes is still making power transmissions and grinding gears in downtown Lufkin. No, it's not what it used to be but things can be accomplished. Top heavy? Your right, and I think a bunch of that is about to change between now and June. To be honest, Lufkin Industries or Champion Paper did little corporate sponsoring to help Lufkin ISD build anything, even when they were running wide open. Paying their taxes, giving out a few scholarships and employing folks seem to be enough for them. You would figure someone like Brookshire Brothers, Loving Auto Group or St. Luke's would like stadium naming rights. HEB stadium or MCF Solar Stadium. 😉 ABE Martin is not paying a dime on that facility, he was only here 7 years (1936-1942), a record of (66-10). There are many possibilities if the right people in charge want it to happen.
  18. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/idzUFXKA6CZDmsJM/?mibextid=Nif5oz Congratulations to all the Pack Basketball kids who were honored with All District. Only two seniors on this year's team, we started two sophomores. Only good things are coming that programs way the next 2 or 3 years.
  19. Longview pulls it out 50-49 with two FT with .4 seconds left.
  20. Just to be honest. Lufkin would not have won over Longview. Well coached team with talent and play with some fire. Game tied late in 4th 43-43
  21. Well, so far the two outstanding guards for Crandall are looking average with Lobos up 8-6 after 1st quarter. Lufkin lacked the guard play offensively and defensively to match up with Crandall. Terrible game feed, hesitates every 3 seconds missing big chuncks of play. Longview broadcasters say its the best they can do. live with it. One thing is evident, Longview can sure shoot FT better than Lufkin. Will see how it goes the rest of the way.
  22. Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Into this house, we're born Into this world, we're thrown Like a dog without a bone An actor out on loan Riders on the storm Keep your eyes and ears open .......🏈
  23. Anyone know how the baseball guys did this past weekend?
  24. The game with Crandall was like the game we played last year against Red Oak. We were not prepared to play that tenacious physical style of basketball. McManus tried to help that situation by scheduling some tough DFW tourneys in non district. However, we didn't play in good enough district to keep us tested, except for Nacogdoches, and they gave Lufkin a run for it both games they played. I saw the effect of our district when we played 4th place Tyler, Lufkin had a real tough time with them. Nacogdoches is still out there playing but have Lancaster next Tuesday. I feel they will meet the same fate as Lufkin against a very good DFW area team. That Longview game could be a good one, but Crandall has such great guard play, it's so good. Then they have the shooters, it's going to be tough for the Lobos to win. That's East Texas basketball at the 6A or 5A DI level, we lose the numbers games to the DFW area, Mt Pleasant has had some success even so they have not won a title at the 5A classification. As good as that Lufkin and the Brandon Walker led group was those two seasons, Kimball and Red Oak ended up made them look average, same as Crandall last night. So getting to a Regional final is a big deal for an East Texas 5A basketball team. Crandall brought smothering help defensive pressure all game long, there was not much easy scoring for Lufkin. Parks worked hard for all of his 16 points, he also missed a lot of free throws. Here is the point of the conversation I want to say that Lufkin should have been at the free throw line twice as much as they were, the officiating was not kind to Lufkin, it was quite one sided and I am being unbiased in that observation. Probably the worst I've seen in my life, honest. Anyway, Lufkin in general had a tough night at the free throw line through three quarters that could have at least kept them in the game. I think Austin Brown hit 6 FT in the 4th quarter when the game was no longer in doubt. Lufkin never controlled the guard play of Crandall. Newman played 90% or the game, it didn't matter if it were Thomas or Taylor, there was no slowing down those Crandall guards. B. J. fouled out early in the 4th trying. They stole the ball from Newman several times at mid court, stole it from Brown, I mean we were not real handy with the basketball last night, and Crandall was the reason. They were physical, got away with it and got called for little of it, lots of carries, palming the ball and travels. it was like the NBA out there, anything goes. We had no answer for them.
  25. Nacogdoches won 42-37 over Sherman so they continue in the playoffs to play Lancaster next week. Longview came from behind to beat Melissa 47-46 to move on to play Crandall next week in Round 3 .
