  1. 62 -47 Final. Good year 24-12. Only 2 seniors, neither started and you have all the talent coming up from JV and Fresh. Crandall played 8 seniors, we won't see them again any time soon. Take nothing away, Crandall is pretty good. One of the most one sided officiated games I've seen in my life. If they were DFW refs, then that's how they play there and we need to get on that same level. We absolutely got caught up in the wash of everything tonight. Started well, but it did not phase Crandall, they waited to see what we brought then turned it on and really never felt threatened. Their guard play was superb tonight WOW, Newman didn't know which way was up most of the night. He got his pocket picked more tonight than someone standing on a corner in NYC. Hope he learned from this experience and has a good off season improving and maybe learning to use that left hand more. Parks carried the team tonight with 16 points. Brown could get nothing to go for three quarters, he had shots that didn't fall, they played him well and shut him out until he scored 10 in the 4th when the game was already settled. We tend to forget he is just a sophomore, everything is on the upside for him and Parks. This team is going to be really good the next 2 or 3 years, playing in a real tough basketball district with Hallsville, Mt Pleasant, Nacogdoches and Tyler. Don't forget Marshall, Texas High, Whitehouse and Jacksonville. It's going to be a tough basketball district. B J Thomas came a long way since the first of the season and Jakevion Sanders was a really great addition from the JV at mid season. Gavin Phillips was a presence inside and hope he can get more playing time next year. I would really like to see more of Kenneth Waters next season at PG, although I know McManus is going to start Newman because he will be a Senior. Javarius White needs a good offseason. This was a tough loss to take, especially the way it went down, but there are brighter days ahead for the basketball program. There will be better times ahead and the officiating crews won't always be as bad as tonight.
  2. Lufkin down 32 - 22 at the half. Not getting any foul calls, terrible referees, just hacking basketball by Crandall.
  3. It's GAMEDAY...UIL Area Round...Lp vs Crandall...LIVE from TJC... If you can't be there, catch all the action on the Lufkin Gametime App or http://lufkingametime.com 6:00pm Tipoff http:/with Gary Ivins and Chris Simmons
  4. Longview 79 New Caney Porter 47 Mt Pleasant 46 Kingwood Park 37 Nacogdoches 76. Hallsville 70 Top two teams in both districts 16-5A and 15-5A win bi district.
  5. Lufkin Panthers (24-11) vs Crandall Pirates (19-15) - 5A Boys Playoffs Round 2 @ 6PM, Friday - Tyler Jr College.
  6. Beaumont United and Beaumont West Brook - BISD Memorial Stadium - 10,729
  7. Abe Martin will again be a middle of the road stadium in the district although Stallworth Stadium in Baytown is older, they still have better fan access. Neither Stallworth or Galveston Ball stadium have a track around them. The Lufkin Admin keep talking talking talking about some type renovations, not to say there has not been a ton of nice things built and renovated all around the place the past couple of years. New state of the art PAC and Baseball/Softball Complex, brand new stadium ticket booths, new concrete driveways all around the stadium and new concrete parking lot by soccer stadium. However the stadium itself proper needs upgrades like new Press Box, concessions, dressing room and bathroom renovations which are exactly the same layout as they were built in 1973. the turf is also in need of replacement and new LED lighting would save the district a ton of money in the future. It's called forward thinking. The same reason John Outlaw isims are still used all over the campus and sports programs. That man was great for LHS sports, but he has also been passed away over 12 years ago now, it's time to move forward, not stay in that past. That's where this district has remained in many respect. . I know there are lots of other things to deal with right NOW, however maybe if those in charge had been more forward thinking, and took care of the financials properly, those stadium renovation could have happen closer to the same time the new PAC facility was built. I will soon make a list of all the nice stadiums in 9-5A DI. Personally I'm embarrassed a fan to see other schools come here climbing those stands trying to find space to operate in the small outdated Lufkin press box. The unnecessary dangers of people having to climb a ladder to get in to do their work. There is no way an ADA person has access to the press box to work. Over the years I've seen a few slip and fall, and get caught by fans below them. Unsafe for our fans too. No hand rails on those steep stadium steps, I have no problem currently, I'm a little older but for some folks it's an adventure like climbing Pike's peak to get up there with no hand rails. I've seen some serious falls over the years, and on a couple occasions the person falling had hit their head and had to be taken away in an ambulance. I never saw either of them in their seats again. Not sure what happen to them. I am so glad to be in 9-5A DI also know better stadiums don't help someone win, but it is nice to keep up with the times and give a good appearance. Other districts with less seems to have nice football stadiums. Went to Rusk last night to watch Lufkin play, Rusk ISD has a very nice sports complex for a small school. We are not a destitute town, there are people here who have money to help. We are also a strange city in many respects too when it comes to spending money to keep up our sports facilities updated. It took decades to finally pass a bond to consolidate everything on the Lufkin High campus, it's can be like trying to drive a nail in a steel plate. I know, I've lived here most of my life.
  8. Still 2 hr 44 min (168.4 mi) to Galveston Ball depending on the traffic??? That is a stay over trip IMO, then head over to Kemah the next day for some good food.
  9. They didn't approve Victoria West going to the CC 14-5A DI district by a 4-3 vote which was a surprise. Victoria West is much closer to CC than 13-5A DII and San Antonio and Kerrville. Not a good decision for them IMO.
  10. Angleton won their appeal and moved from 9-5A DI to 11-5A DI, Spring Woods won their appeal and moved from 11-5A DI to 10-5A DI.
  11. Yea, keep it local and simple. Play Longview, Nacogdoches and JT (Tyler), the fourth could be interesting.
  12. Never have been in Region III, good move for the program. I am certain the other sports will remain in Region II 10-5A. This will be interesting even if it's for only 2 years. No easier road as far as competition, still have two very good programs in PAM and Barbers Hill to deal with now. We still have Longview in non district and an improved Nacogdoches program. Will be interesting to see who we play the other two games in non-district.
  13. Crandall 19-15, they won 56-54 in 2 OTs over McKinney North tonight. They have two seniors who are 6'9" and 6'8" respectively. https://www.uiltexas.org/basketball/playoff-brackets/boys/5A/1-2
  14. Lufkin wins 60-58 in OT Panthers were led by Austin Brown with 22 and Marcellus Parks 18. Lufkin now 25-11 on the year. Not sure how bad Tyler was, they were tenacious all night. McFall had a game high 24 points for the Lions. They beat district leader Longview this year. Good win by Lufkin, you had to be there to get the real feel.
  15. From Matt Stepp - DCTF: Ranking the #UILRealignment appeals IMO who have the best chances of winning #txhsfb @dctf 1) Lufkin (best chance) 2) Victoria West 3) Angleton 4) Smithville 5) Houston Spring Woods 6) SA McCollum/SA Harlandale https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2024/02/19/seven-uil-texas-high-school-football-teams-to-appeal-their-district-alignment?ref=home_feature_article
