It’s always the kids and their effort lol.. The question could be “coach your guys ran the same play 15 times in the 3rd quarter Friday and couldn’t get anything going what do you have to do to change that?” And the answer would be “well we gotta play faster and clean up the pre snap penalties”

You got it to the tee you sure you're not coach quick

Sports editor Josh Havard held a question-and-answer session with Lufkin head football coach Todd Quick Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers improved to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in district action with a 25-7 win over North Mesquite Friday.

The Panthers host the McKinney North Bulldogs at 7:30 Friday night.

Question: What were a few of the changes from the first half when the team was down 7-3 before rallying for the win?

Answer: We didn’t play very good in the first half. Really the defense only gave up the one drive, but we weren’t flying around. There were some adjustments made at halftime. They were mainly done by the players in just the way they were playing.

Q: How big of a boost was Brayden Murphy’s punt return for a touchdown in the second half?

A: That was a huge lift for us. The special teams had created some short fields for us, which was huge. But that one really got everyone going. He’s had so many of those called back this year that you’re almost expecting a flag, but that was a huge play.

Q: Was there any certain key for the defense to be able to shut the door on North Mesquite in the second half?

A: They had the long drive, and we missed a bunch of tackles that could have got us off the field. The defense adjusted well to what they were doing. The kids’ effort was a big part of it.

Q What were some of the things the offense needs to clean up ahead of Friday’s game?

A: One of the biggest problems Friday was the pre-snap penalties. During the play, there are going to be some penalties where your effort can lead to a flag. Penalties that happen before the play are more about concentration. They really put you back.

Q: How has the team adjusted to the week of preparation for this week’s game with school being out?

A: The biggest thing is that everyone has been here this week. We just have to adjust to it and make this a positive thing. The kids can have a week where they’re not worried about math or English. They can be worried about McKinney North.

Its more than pre snap  what about play selection

As the team heads into week 7 of the season there are offensive concerns for this team and it's OC to turn this around

Last Friday was Lufkn’s worst offensive night of the season as it was held to 178 yards on 50 plays while possessing the ball for only 19:19.

The Panthers were also 1-of-9 on third downs, against arguably the worst team in our district.

Why coach Quick never mentions this in interviews.. or is it just me am I not hearing these facts you just posted.... come on man

  4. Reading today's sports page in Lufkin daily and Coach Quicks interview is it me or why he doesn't address the bad play calling on offense or the offensive line play it's almost always something about the defense..and everyone knows they keeping our season alive.its like he is more loyal to green and cook when the kids deserve much better. I just wish it was some how they could be replaced.never thought I would say that .butI think they should not allow the coaches wives to be employed at LhS it's in my opinion a conflict of interest because if you fire the coach you probably loose his wife in the process. No grit no fire John outlaw turning over in his grave. Attendance down hope gone.as a panther faithful I remember the good days hate these young athletes will miss the opportunity. Fire coach Quick he is responsible for the team.he is the captain of this ship reck.just needed to vent nothing is going to change

This is what always messes with my head. Why this fixing stuff continue 5 or 6 games into a season. You can't keep addressing things in this way season after season. The team should be getting better as the season moves on.  All of this current 2023 group, coaches and players have 5 games left this year to again make a difference and change folks minds about this team ending up as they have the past two seasons.  I hear the words, we've heard them before of course. At some point, fans stop listening because the results do not match the talk.

    True

The topic is best RB in Lufkin history. My picks in no particular order.

The more recent in last 30 years, I would say:

Denvis Manns (1993-1994) New Mexico State and Dallas Cowboys

Jorvorskie Lane (2002-2004) Texas A&M, Tampa Bay and Miami

    Jamarcus Walker (2010-2011) SFA

    Kedren Young (2021-2023) Notre Dame

Going to add Isaiah Phillips (2017) ULM,  although he was only a RB his senior season he was phenomenal

Have to include Ray Harper (1969-1970), a tough downhill RB who played at Baylor.

That should cover it, lots of records with Lufkin for those guys.

    What about Eric Curl

I ain’t gonna lie. Purplenation had me rolling when he said green needed to turn in his playbook and go back to 6th grade PE 🤣

That was true I said the very same thing last season and got back lashed but now everyone see like ,59 Chevy wish we could see old thread from last season.when I started classification or talent. Green don't care he believes he is smarter than everyone else from my conversation with him and coach quick loyalty is putting him in a bad situation  enjoy reading the board probably the only good thing to me about football season.some great observation from members just wish it was something that someone could have done before we got to this point. Out of Hope 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Whatever happens tonight, please don't blow up the site during or after the game.  There are 6 more games after this one, stay logical.  No needs to beat down old subjects we all have talked about 10,000 times here. I'm in no mood for it, people who know me fully understand what that means.

Not posting anymore today until the game is over, or when we get back to Lufkin. Then maybe not anything until Saturday morning.  Safe travels to all, good luck to the Pack!  May the Force be with You!  Maybe that was a little over the top, but whatever, I've got nothing else. ;)  Go Pack!  That's better.

FYI - College Station is a -2 point underdog at home to (1-2) Georgetown by Pigskin Prep next week.  This is an off week for them.  Even though Lufkin was a -5 point underdog last week and beat AMC, AMC still remains ahead of Lufkin in the rankings.

DCTF/Pigskin Prep Comprehensive Texas High School Football Computer Rankings — Week 4 - 7-5A DI

    Overall ** #1 - Aledo  #2 -Smithson Valley  #37  - A&M Consolidated

Kaden Hooper has a chance to be one of the best LBs to come through Lufkin. He has that kind of ability. This defense is going to be tough this year. Next season they're going to be unbelievable. I told you guys the tide is turning the next 2-3 years. But like someone said are we just a really good team or can we be a contender. I guess we will find out here in the next month.

He has played that position since the boys and girls club  super bowl champs and little Panthers aau travel team runner up in a game against the little league national champions. And your right on point...

DCTF 2023 Lufkin Panther Preview: Not much information here we didn't already know. DCTF picks Lufkin to finish 5th in District 7-5A DI, while Matt Stepp has picked the Panthers to finish 4th in this highly competitive district. DCTF only list 6 players. Personally think there are quite a few other player to watch and take note of this season.

Coach: Todd Quick -12th year. Lettermen R/L: 24/26. Starters returning O/D: 5/5. 2022: 6-4/3-4 district. Key losses: Aaron McMillan (Ouachita Baptist), Cam Lister (Henderson State)

Players to watch: RB Kedren Young (5-11, 212, 4.5), DB Isaiah Menefee (6-2, 185, 4.5). Top juniors: LB Kaden Hooper (6-0, 1215), DL Zion Williams (6-4, 290, 5.1).

Other prospects: K Nolan Hansard, WR Kriesan Preston, WR Ke’Vondrick Taylor.

2023 notes: Lufkin missing the playoffs didn’t happen for a stretch of 23 seasons from 1998-2020, but the postseason has come and gone minus the Panthers two years in a row. Expect that to change if RB Young (1,666 yards, 19 TDs rushing) continues to blossom into one of the state’s best. QB T.J. Hammond (1,464 yards, 13 TDs passing) has a year of experience under his belt, and the WR combo of Taylor (21-345, 3 TDs receiving) and Preston should help in his development. DB Menefee (67 tackles, 4 PBU, 2 INTs) turned in a solid season, and keep an eye on DL Williams (31 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 TFL), an imposing figure who saw plenty of action as a sophomore last season.

DCTF listed 16 Longview players to watch this season. For Lancaster, they listed 17 players to watch. Forney 12 players.

His name is krisean  not kriesan  it was a typo last season  on coach Cooke

Be very clear. My ???? are never with the talent or the kids on the team. I am quite ready to see these guys play. Have been waiting 2 years now to see them playing all together on the Varsity and having the same success they accomplished as freshman.  It's the other elements, some Pack13 eluded to, that have been frustrating as a Panther fan, and don't care what anyone else thinks, some has been the coaching.

Feeling is mutual just entertaining to read since Lufkin daily don't cover every day. But your right everyone has an opinion  and no one on this board is a professional sports analysts but very entertaining until season starts keep the comments going LP4L

I know this has nothing to do with Panther football. Found this track training interesting, this girl is from Stephenville and won the 2023 4A 100M title this year with a 11.35.

I'm asking this question to anyone out there who KNOWS, however primarily directed toward Purple Nation.

Longview is known for tough physical and mental workouts, and play on the field. They are extremely physical against each other in their practice regiment. IMO that pays dividends to their success.

How do you rate Lufkin's football workouts in comparison?

Great ! Observation. Not even close.we mainly go half shell.and limited contact except tackling a doughnut wheel.
