  1. We all know Superintendent and Coaches tend to have close relationships. Not always, but for the most part. Hockenberry was only the assistant Sup in Longview for about 3 years, so he doesn't really have a real connection to Longview IMO. For that reason, I don't think getting a Longview coach or Longview connected coach is a reality for Lufkin. If it was though, Berry (DC) is proven as a HC. One of the best coaches in ETX. Another option could be Jerrod Baugh, former OC under King. Current HC at 5A Ruston, LA....just won a state title last year and was in the title game the year before that. But like I said, I don't think Hockenberry has Longview connections like that. Seemed to be sort of a pit stop for him. However, he was Superintendent at Center for 12 years before going to Longview. Ralph Thomas is obviously a choice with the turnaround he's had at Yates. And he'd more than likely be bringing an excellent OC with him in Longview alum Jon Writt, who worked at Lufkin (2014) before and helped Longview hit some high milestones including the title in 2018. Want to know the artist behind the likes of Kamden Perry and Jalen Hale? Coach Writt was WRs coach for Longview from 2015-2022 and was responsible for signaling in our plays. Hated it when Writt left but was happy to see him go up the ranks. I'd keep an eye on Center HC Ricky Meeks. He won at Alto, he's winning at Center....won a championship as an assistant under his legendary father Dickie Meeks. I bet he'd get a call. ETX guy so you'll get stability. Hockenberry also has a connection with Barry Bowman, who won multiple state titles at Daingerfield. Think he's coaching down in Florida now.
  2. Man it's been tons of teams inquiring about Week 3 games. No reason why Lufkin shouldn't have one. But if you wait too long, you're stuck with a team from Mexico again.
  3. Yeah, I'm trying to see if we're headed to Abe Week 1. We know the rest of our schedule, but the Lufkin side is being extremely secretive and quiet for no reason. I have a feeling we're headed to Lufkin though, since we have SOC and Ruston at home.
  4. Looks like both Pflugerville and Pflugerville Connally are looking for Week 3.
  5. Legacy has Marshall Week 3, I'm not sure who A&M has Week 3 but their coach made it seem like it was already filled with this tweet: Forney ended up filling that Week 2 spot for them. Lufkin's Week 3 appears to be a really random Texas opponent, or maybe even someone out of state.
  6. God I'm so glad we moved up. The travel in 5AD1 is awful but, this is what you get when you pre split divisions. Should've stayed with post split. Tasty non district schedule for Longview. Lufkin, Marshall, SOC and Ruston, LA (won state).
  7. Lufkin's question won't be about what they have in between the lines. It'll be about the sidelines as usual.
  8. To add, #6 CB Chris Johnson is a Longview native. His mom is a Lobo alum. Aledo don't have very many kids that are natives there. Ton of kids that moved in sometime in between their 6th grade years to now. Heck, the player of the game Hawk Patrick-Daniels came from Ft.Worth Brewer.
  9. Aledo was even younger last year when they won it lol Had sophomores and juniors all over the field and basically returned their entire team this year. That's the thing...if you didn't get by Aledo last year...you weren't going to do it afterwards. We had them down 14-3 at half last year before we decided to go ultra conservative in the 2nd half. Just like the Lancaster game this year. Aledo HC is in his 1st year as HC this year. Just goes to show that it doesn't matter how many years of coaching you have under your belt....you either got it or you don't. Quick and yes, even Coach King at Longview can learn a lot from Aledo's HC on how to manage a roster.
  10. Won't have to worry about any of the teams you mentioned, except maybe SLC.
  11. Not really. We tend to do better in the highest classification, for whatever reason. 5AD1 are the ones that'll have to deal with Aledo, HP, Desoto....good luck.
  12. He was. Matter of fact, he caught a TD pass against Longview in the playoffs that year and was an important offensive player for ya that year even as a sophomore. 2017 Lufkin had: Bug Thompson, Jalynn Polk, Tre Odum, Isaiah Phillips, Malik Jackson, Jacourtney Calvin, Jeremiah Davis, Savon Fields, Hunter Hollis, Carl Williams, Braylon Garcia and Javasia Brunson. That's alot of college players.
  13. Would've sued (this absolutely has to happen) and transferred schools personally.
  14. They're tough as nails because of John King. He was a state championship winning OL in HS and an All American in college. He even coached OL at the 2020 Under Armour All American game in Florida. JK always makes sure to have a very solid front 7 on defense too. Iron sharpens iron. Longview also has 3-4 coaches that coach the OL. King himself, Coach Borens (former Longview great that played in 2 state championships and a semifinal. No one has started more games in Lobo history than Borens), Coach Hancock (former coordinator at another ETX program) and Coach Lott (coached some solid ETX OL over the years including Marshall's state finalist OL in 2005 and Longview's 2018 state OL). If you've ever been to a Longview practice, it's extremely intense physically and mentally especially for the OL. They constantly have coaches on their a%#
  15. Man, I hated losing Writt (Yates 1st year OC) at Longview. Every Longview receiving record known to man was shredded while Writt was WR coach. Not to mention numerous deep runs including the state championship. He was also responsible for signaling in our plays. Crazy thing is, he knows defense too. One of the best safeties to ever come through Longview and played the position in college. He and Ralph are the perfect combo to call an offense.
  16. See. There's a certain individual in here that cracks jokes at Lobo fans for paying attention and putting stock into the youth. But that's the foundation. That's the future. That's where it starts. You want to know part of where consistency comes from? Engraving a winning mentality at an early age. Creating those expectations early. Waiting until HS to start taking players seriously is not what the winning programs are doing. So whether we're talking about the Lobos...our 3 middle schools... or our youth city teams like the Mustangs...or some of our highly successful youth pop warner/select teams like East Texas Heat and Gregg County Cowboys... We treat it all the same in Longview. The expectation is to win regardless of level.
  17. It was Lufkin Purple. Foster beat Lufkin Gold first game of the season. Anyway, solid win for yall. Judson is better than Foster but that is a very solid Foster 7th team too. They wont lose much this year. Team has guys like Jacob Allen (Jordan Allen's little brother) at QB and Kaleb Brooks at LB (current Lobo LB Kason Brooks little brother) and Vinny Portley Jr in the trenches (son of former Lobo great). Foster 7th is apart of a special Longview 7th class that features Kaiman Flowers...a 6'4/6'5 190 pound TE whose the son of Marvin Byrdsong...Grayson Minshew at WR (kin to Gardner Minshew)...already around 6'0. AJ McGee at RB whose drawing comparisons to Fred Talley early....son of former Lobo great and current coach Addison McGee. And the cherry on top...one of the top '29 signal callers in Texas, Smiles Hill. https://tdrecruits.com/texas-high-school-football-rising-stars-of-the-2027-and-2029-classes/ All of them are on that undefeated Judson squad that's averaging 34 PPG, and have only given up 6 points all year (against Forest Park). Judson won't play Lufkin Purple this year but they will play Lufkin Gold down in Lufkin on 10/17 at Abe.
  18. He may be the top '26 back in Texas lol And is trending for the good guys early. https://247sports.com/player/javian-osborne-46134406/
  19. Not sure where you're getting "he isn't football D1" from but RB McMiller literally already has 2 D1 offers from SMU and Nebraska. He's the son of former JT RB great Torrey McMiller. '27 ATH Trey Harlason also has an offer from SMU. JT has a pretty solid 9th group. Boulter 8th was probably the best MS team in ETX last year. They went undefeated, including blowing out a good Judson 8th team out of Longview. Folks in Longview and Tyler did want to see Boulter 8th play Foster 8th last season (both finished the year undefeated) but I suspect Boulter was a tad better.
