  1. After two plus decades of being a serious fan, last night was a reality check for me.  When I saw the score come up 27-21 in the 4th, I knew we weren't winning by 5 unless we finally got a freebie from someone or actually made a huge play in the 4th to win a close game.  Neither happened and I was already fast asleep.  Losing close games all the time is a sign of a failing program.  Next year the excuse will be we are too young and inexperienced.  Only appropriate we go 4 and out to end the game. Two district wins.

They had a Qb(Gavin) but he was moved to a different position. I was in favor of them turning it over to him after the Lancaster game. He might not have been as polished as Hammonds, but the dude was gamer and had chemistry with Preston. Unfortunately he wasn't available anyway.

The staff decided to invest 3 years into Hammonds and it didn't pay off. Not his fault the line was bad and he wasn't put in the best position to be successful. I think you need a mobile Qb or a true gun slinger if you gonna run any type of spread offense.

thanks for the insight.  I don't really follow the team anymore, certainly not to any extent.  Reminds me of Leonard Hewitt - the team had plenty of wr's after his soph year, so they move him to DB - all state two years in a row!  That's called coaching!  To my knowledge - LH never graduated HS, had a full ride at Tech and never showed up.  Coaches can only do so much, but they turned him into a monster DB and rode him to two state semi's - played his junior year in the PO's with a torn ACL and still had two picks.  You coach up your gamers - period, end of story.

They had a QB, Gavin Phillips, who came in last year in the Lancaster game and almost help us almost beat them.

Green moved him to H back this year, he lasted 4 games and ended up off the team in alternative for vaping in school. At 6-3 250 and able to run well, he would have been a good fit at QB. That's all hind sight now, and there was no reason early on to not  think T J could be successful with the skilled talent around him.  All of that is a vapor now. If things only had a 10% chance of going 6 ways South before the season, they have quadrupled that now and made it to the South Pole. Only in Lufkin.

A perfect summary of why this team is out of the playoffs again.  Coach O was smart enough to realize he needed to coach up the most gifted kids he had - that was his ticket to the mid PO's rounds year in and year out.  Sure, some kids got lost in the mix - but not many.  Now, we're just another Nacogdoches.

Just a note about our 2023 non district opponents.  Tyler Legacy has gotten better and are 3-1 in district, Huntsville is 3-1 in district and AMC is 4-1 in district play.  All will be playoff teams.

This is just really unbelievable on the one hand and very believable on the other because it has happened so often.  It shows just how far Lufkin deteriorates as the year wears on. We are out-coached almost every game of the year, and its less noticeable in Weeks 0-3 bc the more detail-oriented coaches need 2-4 weeks before they get in fully sync.

So, this super awesome freshman group from two years ago had no QB?  That part confuses me.  The OC is basically saying we are so weak at qb I'm not even going to try and gameplan something beyond 8th grade level stuff.  I think the coaches have gotten really good at excuse-making so they can round up their retirements to 30 years.

I saw the qb taking a sip of coffee on one of his throws - we never touched him.  We rush 3 and receivers are still open by 5 yards.  We can't tackle.  Other than that, the D looked only slightly terrible.

  6. Man, oh, man - I just watched some highlights from last night.  My jaw dropped - not at the play on the field, but the fact that ABE was a Ghost Town!  How many were there last night - 2,500?  Yeah - I know the deep pockets fans have kept their season tickets for 40 years and will keep on until they pass - but - Fans are speaking - Loud and Clear!  The product and program stink - there is ZERO upward trajectory with this program.  Pathetic.

Just saying, if Forney could have tacked on another score or two, they would have done it and never thought twice about it.

Some people think differently about that, I don't, it's winning and momentum when you can get it.  Aledo beat Saginaw 70-0 last night, they do that stuff every year when thay can, and have 11 titles and played for 2 more.

Me, I have no problem with doing that, if it helps with building a winning culture. Aledo probably gets #10 in 12 appearances this year.

Enjoy the runs when you have the opportunity, for when it's gone it's gone.

Just ask Converse Judson, Odessa Permian, LaMarque, Plano, Abilene and even Southlake Carroll.

We were fortunate to have John Outlaw here. For what happen for Lufkin foitball with him as coach had never happened before, and has not happend again since his time here. Only memories of what use to be.

Well said.  Apparently Aledo led that game 63-0 in the 2nd quarter - according to the Dave Campbell site - which is where I get my scores.  If true, that's hard to do - scoring 9 TD's in less than 2 quarters.  I'm almost curious to go read the stats somewhere.  I think we had 50+ at half time against Oak Ridge way back when.

  8. Epic Homecoming game - getting routed by Forney - who may be the second best team in district.  Who cares - Lufkin is an absolute nobody program right now - probably not a top 50 program at the 5a level - it wasnt that long ago we were a top 10 program at 6a.  Unbelievable.

The 45 yards of PF's  - still continuing 5 weeks into the season says it all.  I don't think we got 3 total under Coach O.  Let everyone who has gotten one run 15 windsprints a day every day during the Bye week.

  9. Scores for the past three years against LV have been a combined 140+ to 12.  Lobos were best in class last year - this year?  Will they win district?  Probably - but I don't see a deep run with this group.  Regardless - we are a mediocre program that is not the same zip code as LV of late.  If we are not in the same district next alignment - let's drop the Lobos for Kilgore, or someone else where we don't embarrass ourselves.

  10. My vote would be to re-name the stadium after Coach Outlaw, but I don't see that happening. I don't know what the legal ramifications are, if any, but it's rare to see a stadium re-named. I grew up in Abilene - and I have no idea who Pete Shotwell was, nor do 95% of the people that go there - but that's it's name.

At the least, the field should be named after Coach, but would love to see a new precedence of re-naming the stadium.

  11. I'd say that is highly unlikely - there is not even a match for that phrase.

It does say this about Lufkin, Texas:

Lufkin is served by two hospitals, the Memorial Medical Center at Lufkin, which includes the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center, and Woodlands Heights Medical Center.

The space shuttle Columbia crashed in the Lufkin area.

Lufkin is well known for its high school football team, the Lufkin Panthers.
