PackAttack Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 You know the season just started, right? Well like all of my HS football seasons the clock and the calendar speed up between August 24th and November 8th, I'm convinced of it. LOL Anyway this week is the last week of the schedule football season - Week #11, and it is a huge game for the Panthers and the Golden Tornadoes because there is a district title on the line in 9-5A DI. This week Lufkin (8-1, 5-0) head down to Galveston Ball (8-1, 4-1) to play for who takes home the district gold ball. Last week Lufkin hosted and won 42-7 against Beaumont United (2-7, 0-5). Galveston Ball traveled to Beaumont West Brook (4-5, 2-3), winning 27-7. Lufkin has played Galveston Ball three times in our history, 1936, 1984 and 1985. Lufkin is 1-2 against them, losing 12-6 in 1936, losing 14-9 in 1984, then winning 19-15 in 1985. DCTF has Galveston Ball favored by +1 point Tickets for the game can be purchased online: https://gofan.co/app/school/TX73119 Please read all stadium rules for Kermit Courville Stadium: https://www.gisdathletics.com/kermit-courville-stadium-guidelines Directions to Kermit Courville Stadium: https://texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=617 LUFKIN BROADCAST: https://www.lufkinisd.org/lp-livestream/ LUFKIN LIVE STREAM: https://www.lufkingametime.com/ 2024 Galveston Ball Golden Tornadoes: Coach: Sheldon Bennight. Lettermen R/L: 16/26. Starters returning O/D: 8/6. 2023: 9-2 bi-district finalist/8-0 district. Players to watch: WR/S Jonah Williams (6-5, 215, 4.5), QB Kyden Barker (6-0, 190, 4.8), WR London Deyon (6-5, 200, 4.6), DE Traivon Dotson (6-2, 245, 4.8), DL Robert Champs (5-11, 265, 4.8), OL/DL Corey Sanders (6-3, 275, 4.9). Top juniors: OL Josiah Evans (6-4, 280), CB Jayvian Joseph (5-10, 170, 4.5). 2024 notes: After dominating in a Houston ISD-heavy district the past two seasons, Ball’s travel budget and level of competition has increased in the new 9-5A Division I. Five-star prospect WR/S Williams (46 tackles, 4 INTs; 20-474, 8 TDs receiving; 144 yards, 2 TDs rushing) scored a total of 20 touchdowns a year ago from seven different ways, showing his incredible versatility in all three phases of the game. QB Barker (2,062 yards, 30 TDs passing) is back to guide the offense and will operate behind a veteran offensive line. The Tors’ defense has some holes to fill but there are building blocks in DE Dotson and interior DL Champs. Bennight says youth at linebacker and in the secondary are Ball’s biggest concerns going into 2024.
