We enter Week #10 of the 2024 season. The Lufkin Panthers (7-1, 4-0) will host the Beaumont United Timberwolves (2-6, 0-4) in district action. It will be Senior Night for the Panthers.  Last week the Lufkin Panthers solidified their position in district by defeating Port Arthur Memorial on the road 30-23 to remain undefeated and push themselves into a first place lead with two games remaining. Beaumont United played Beaumont West Brook last week in the "Battle of Beaumont" losing 48-7 in a game that was close in the first half.  United, along with Baytown Sterling have no wins in district play.  A win by Lufkin this week will guarantee them at least 2nd place in the district and hosting a first round playoff game with a team from District 10-5A DI. Lufkin and Beaumont United have never played since the consolidation of the Beaumont Central and Beaumont Ozone high schools.  Lufkin football did have a history with Beaumont Central having  played 14 times between 1988 to 2001, Lufkin led that series 10-3-1.  Last game played was at Central in 2001, a 17-7 Panther win.

DCTF has Lufkin a +37 point favorite over Beaumont United.

2024 Beaumont United:

Coach: Darrell Colbert, Sr. Lettermen R/L: 26/27. Starters returning O/D: 4/9. 2023: 2-8/1-6 district. Key losses: Weston Davis (LSU), Trevanti Davis (Stephen F. Austin).

Players to watch: ATH Ashton Henry (6-0, 170, 4.6), LB Jeremiah Stevens-Holman (6-0, 210, 4.7), DL Edward Taylor, Jr. (6-2, 295), DL Jaikius Kenebrew (6-0, 280), WR Joshua Johnson (6-0, 175, 4.5), DB Javarious Phoenix (5-9, 165, 4.5). Top juniors: RB Derrian Anderson (5-8, 180, 4.6), DB Nelson Taire (5-9, 170, 4.6). Top sophomore: WR Emanuel Shaffers-Jones (6-1, 160, 4.6,  LB Deisean Hope, WR Tatein Calhoon, DL Caden LeGaux, DL Dewey Hickmon, LB Cedric McGill, LB Christerpher Norman, DB Pelican Jamon, QB Miles Andrews.

2024 notes: Beaumont United moves down to 5A Division I after two tough seasons in Class 6A, and Colbert believes a veteran defense will be key to pushing for a playoff spot in 9-5A Division I. LB Stevens-Holman (75 tackles) returns after earning second-team all-district honors a year ago in 21-6A leads the defense. The defensive line has DL Taylor Jr. and DL Kenebrew. Junior ATH Henry (21-394, 5 TDs receiving) was the 21-6A co-offensive newcomer of the year 2023. He’s a dynamic force who can play multiple positions after spending 2023 at WR. The rest of the offense has had a lot of question marks, including the offensive line where two Division I signees graduated from 2023.
