Panthers hoping a change of scenery and a veteran defense will bring about a return to the playoffs. DL Williams and DT Alexander will be a handful for any offensive line to handle and that should free up hard-hitting LB Hooper to use his athleticism to make plays. WR Preston is the lone skill player on the offensive side of the ball with significant experience returning. The offense is has youth on the OL that needs is working hard to come together. 2024 Tyler Lions Coach: Rashaun Woods. Lettermen R/L: 28/16. Starters returning O/D: 7/6. 2023: 6-4/3-4 district. Key losses: Derrick McFall (SMU), Zach Williams (Tulsa). Players to watch: LB D’Canaan Sueing (6-0, 210, 4.7), LB D’Crystian Sueing (6-0, 205, 4.7), OL Kabren Edwards (6-3, 260), DB Jeremiah Taylor (5-11, 165, 4.5), DB Amarion Spencer-Hood (5-9, 160, 4.6), TE/LB Keondre Powers (6-0, 220, 4.9). Other prospect: WR LaTreyson Haralson. 2024 notes: It was a strong debut season for Coach Woods in East Texas as Tyler improved by four wins from their 2022 total and now Tyler is looking for a return to the postseason with a veteran unit returning. The defense is anchored by LBs D’Canaan Sueing (116 tackles, 1 sack) and D’Crystian Sueing , while veteran DBs Taylor and Spencer-Hood patrol the secondary. Tyler’s offense could be among the best in East Texas with junior QB Granberry returning after a strong sophomore season. RB Arriaga returns and the offense will add two sophomores in RB Miller and WR Haralson, who have Power 5 potential on the recruiting scene. Coach Woods says finding depth in the trenches on both sides of the ball will be key for the Lions in 2024.
