I would think losing Penix to the draft was the major factor.  His accuracy has probably made Polk a lot of dollars.

IF Polk had not committed to the NFL draft, was hoping he would Transfer to Texas, now that Ewers is staying and Manning is sitting in the wings.

Lufkin's question won't be about what they have in between the lines.

It'll be about the sidelines as usual.

Yep. It is just hard for me to accept that those "sideline guys" can do anything different with this group than the past three seasons missing the playoffs. You don't just flip a switch and start winning.  You build and maintain a winning programs, haven't seen much of that here in a long time. I just see some guys drawing a paycheck.  IF this 2024 group does make the playoffs, I wager $100 they go maybe two rounds with those  "sideline guys".  There's not one piece of evidence that would indicate different.  These kids have the talent to do much more, there is no doubt in my mind about it. However, I'm under no grand illusions that things suddenly become playoff contending in 2024 with this same leadership. Better?, yes, maybe? however the last three years sort of set the tone of what this staff can't accomplish with good talent.

Jerrin Thompson will be transferring to Auburn next season and begin grad school. While he finishes out his football career. Wish him the best.

Interesting move. Hope he does well.

Sark is building something special at Texas. It is becoming the school that elite kids want to play at. They're absolutely killing it in the transfer portal. Texas has a legitimate chance to win the SEC year one and they probably should.

Don't have an idea. Depends on if it's a 7 or 8 team district. Don't think not playing AMC or Legacy is out of the question. Don't see much change happening.

The UIL cares nothing about high school athletes or their fans.  There is no way they can justify a 3-4 hour one-way  bus ride for an athletic event.  If they did care, it would not be hard to sit down and develop a solution.

There is no secret the metro areas, especially around the DFW  and Conroe- The Woodlands -Houston areas carry a big sway over a rural area like East Texas, where there are only two 6A teams and two 5A DI schools total for football.  Our East Texas area football landscape is dominated mostly by 5A DII classifications down.  Lufkin and Tyler are in "no mans land" when it comes to the UIL and where they get located every two years. Longview is now back into 6A with Tyler Legacy, even they get crammed into the DFW East Metro area.  It's a no win for East Texas schools at the 6A and 5A DI levels.

It's so funny that in all other sports, the UIL will pair Lufkin with schools who mostly play football in 5A DII.  The enrollments sure doesn't matter to the UIL when it comes to all other sports.

They need to do away with the pre split

I agree.  They could easily do this with football and play a 5a district.  If they want more parity, they could easily split the divisions for the playoffs and just allow all teams to participate that first week.

Evan Young just picked up a UTSA

That is good news. Evan had 30 tackles from the secondary last year for the Pack D as a junior.

He's a solid football player and just as good of a kid too. That gives the 25 class 2 kids with FBS offers. With Preston it's just a matter of time. Also Gavin, Hooper and Alexander will all likely pick up FBS offers at some point. So in all that will be 6 kids and I expect a few others to sign to play at some level.

Congratulation to both of those young men. The biggest question for me, will their talent be used wisely in 2024. It's a legit observation.

I think the defense is going to be tough for offenses to deal with. Returning 9 starters and another 3-4 kids with experience. The offense will have the weapons but the offensive line is the question mark. Im optimistic that they will have a good season.
