PackAttack
Look, we all know how KImball works and attracts talent to that program. Their coach is active at theses AAU leagues in the Metro areas. Great basketball, just like great football programs attract top talent.
PurpleNation
What's funny is the 4A winner between Houston Washington and Oak Cliff Faith Family winner will have a legitimate claim to best team in Texas no counting Duncanville. Carter beat Kimball and lost to Faith Family. Houston Washington has handed Beaumont United it's only loss this year. United plays Lake Highlands for the 6A title. You would never see nothing like this in football.

Wouldn't make any difference.
PackAttack
I watch teams. Veterans Memorial and Killeen Ellison, even Lancaster and Red Oak were top notch teams. All had DI talent on the floor, just says it all about how Kimball works, and you can bet their coach don't give a rip about what anyone thinks or how it's done. PackAttack
I've been waiting a few weeks to see if anyone noticed anything different about the Lufkin - Red Oak game. One more chance?

I watched the 6A regional tournament in Lufkin and saw some great basketball. One thing you will notice about those top teams. Is how they attack on defense. They also have lengthy, size and speed. It's hard to have all of those with out drawing talent from other areas. Which is why you see those DFW and GHA schools becoming destinations for kids looking to play particular sport. We only get what we already have within in the city limits. Nothing we can really do about that. Those DFW schools stack talent to compete with other top schools in the city and around the state..sometimes the country. I do think the Lufkin program has turned a corner. And would benefit from facing schools with similar talent and style of play as some of the better teams from DFW. I say that because, any road to state goes through DFW. I would love to see them compete in the Dallas Hoopfest tournament, like that did last year. They ended up losing to S.O.C. but saw what it would take to compete against teams like that. Don't know all the logistics for getting into a tournament, so that may be off the table. I think the Sulphur Springs tournament was well done. Jacksonville, Silsbee, and the New Caney tournament are decent. I would try tweaking the schedule. Maybe see if one of the other Beaumont schools would be open to play. United, Port Arthur Memorial or Westbrook would be candidates. Not sure if we will ever have the horses in this day and age to consistently compete with the Kimballs of the world. But who knows what could happen if we have.a special group come through.
timeout!
Great game between United and Lake Highlands. Congrats to Lake Highlands and great effort by United. Both teams played hard the whole game. Left it all out there on the floor. I was pulling United..just wasn't their night down the stretch. This win completes a sweep for the DFW schools in basketball and football in classes 4A-6A. All them schools in the DFW, Austin, and Houston get players to come to their schools way easier than us in the country. From SLC, Westlake, to Kimball and others. Allen stays so good because of not having 5 schools they just have 1. Imagine Plano or Denton just having one super school with 5k kids just craziness. You throw in the NIL now in some states at the HS level sports will only get crazier. Just seems at times the UIL picks and chooses when to come down hard. Think about all them years Highland Park was always 1 under the enrollment limit.

PackAttack
Red Oak did not begin the game with their main starters, only their point guard. All the other starters came in late in the 1st period. Not sure of the reasoning, whatever it was worked.
timeout!
I think we should've used Brown more down low. Even the guys calling the game wondered why didn't do it more. He actually has nice little package in the blocks for a freshman. He showed me he not scared to mix it up in the blocks against Silsbee. Walker was struggled early, so maybe taken advantage of Brown size advantage down low would've helped. Hopefully this is something McManus expands on in the future. It would really make him a force to deal with. Especially nights his shots may not be falling. I think that game has a different outcome if we played them again. timeout!
Congrats to Walker..really enjoyed watching him play. He will get a chance to play at the next level. He'll have to continue work on his game. 6'5 is a little undersize for a big in college.

Brandon did not display his other skills often, he can handle the ball and shoot from outside, that includes three point range. He will make an excellent small forward for some team. Some college is going to pick up an excellent player in Brandon.

He's a selfless player and person. Great kid and I wish him the best. I know this is a sports board. But the Lufkin robotics club made it to the finals at the FIT(First in Texas) Robotics Tournament in San Antonio today. They also made it to the finals a few weeks ago in Ft.Worth. They have a really good program and don't always get the recognition as some of the other kids. Lufkin point guard Kamari Taylor is also a club member. We have a lot of great kids that are excellent students and athletes. That will be positive assets to society.
