Needing a win for the District 12-6A title, the Lufkin Lady Panthers let a six-run lead slip away before dropping a 9-7 decision against The Woodlands Lady Highlanders in The Woodlands on Friday night.

Lufkin scored four runs in a first inning highlighted by RBI singles from Sara Mayes and Jasmine Ibarra.

The team exchanged runs in the second inning before Lexy Ramirez’s two-run blast gave the Lady Pack a seemingly comfortable 7-1 lead in the third inning.

However, The Woodlands erased that margin with three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning that tied the game.

In the sixth inning, Amanda Curran then rocketed a two-run homer that gave the Lady Highlanders a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Leah Akridge led Lufkin with three singles, Mayes had a pair of singles and an RBI, Ramirez hit a homer and two RBIs, Ibarra added a single and an RBI and Tatum Liles and Smiley Radke each hit a single.

Radke took the loss in the pitching circle for Lufkin.
